About the Business
The UNC Center for Information, Technology, and Public Life (CITAP) is a research institution located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Our work focuses on the intersection of technology platforms and democratic society, analyzing how social differences shape unequal dynamics in information systems. We prioritize questions of power to produce insights that inform a digital future rooted in equality and justice.
Our recent publication, "Media and January 6th," edited by Khadijah Costley White, Daniel Kreiss, Shannon C. McGregor, and Rebekah Tromble, explores the relationship between media and the attempted coup on January 6, 2021. This volume brings together leading scholars to examine the events of that day and the role of media in shaping them.
We are proud to have Tressie McMillan Cottom honored with Brandeis's Gittler Prize and welcome a new cohort of affiliates for the 2023-2024 term. CITAP is currently seeking an Executive Director to provide visionary leadership, and we are celebrating the achievements of our team members this summer.
Our ongoing research covers a wide range of topics, from political communication strategies to the impact of data-driven marketing in public spheres. We also host symposiums and award ceremonies to recognize contributions to strengthening democracy and combating disinformation.
Join us in exploring the complexities of technology, media, and public life at CITAP.
