"Horrible horrible experience. Didn’t even make it to surgery for an ACL repair before the anesthesiology department called me numerous times to go over the same medical records questions and then apparently never put them in my record. No patient continuity at all. I expressed this numerous times and they just talk over me and ignore me and continue to tell me to just answer the questions. If you can’t even do this right over the phone from five different people what makes you think your department is qualified to be putting people under for surgery. After calling the surgeons office back to cancel the appointment I was meet with the same hostility. I will never be back to duke nor my family for any reason and as combat veteran trying to get my injuries fixed from service to this country I can not believe the level of unprofessionalism and the just check the box attitude from this organization. I highly recommend veterans to stay away."
"Duke Orthopedics made a huge mistake by ordering the wrong bone several years ago and then changed the story to deny after the doctor and nurses confessed to me and my son. They prepared him for this bone first which lead to the end of him saving his leg. Duke lacked accountability to my son. This mistake change the route of his life. We came from Indiana many times for prep and they messed up left from right in an order? Cut into him without checking the replacement. Dr. said "I have some good news and some bad news. The good new is they sent us a beautiful bone, the bad news it is for the wrong leg. I wish I would have seen that before I started surgery, the donor rep is in there chewing his fingers off." Miraculously the story shortly changed, after he ran to a meeting, to my son wasn't a good candidate. Not what the staff told us. Not the truth the doctor immediately told me. Like I said NO ACCOUNTIBILITY."
"I'm a patient there for 15 years. I am always treated like the Queen that I am..."
"Today was my first visit to Duke Orthopedics to meet with the surgeon who will performing my surgery in several days. Dr. Bill Jiranek is the most personable "orthopedic guy" I've ever met, plus he is widely published and has extensive experience in some of the more complicated procedures, like revisions. His PA, Sarah, was very attentive and helpful and was present during my discussion with the surgeon. Formerly with Virginia Commonwealth University, we are indeed fortunate to have Dr. Jiranek at Duke and I understand some of his Virginia patients have followed him here."
"Terrible experience. Dr. Attarian is prejudiced against people with MS. I was told by another doctor that he did not want to operate on me because I have MS and I complained. Dr. Attarian then told me that I could not see any orthopedic doctor at Duke. I found over 30 errors in my medical file and complained and then I was penalized for complaining about it."
