"Stay far away from this place!!! I just got out of their offices after a dispute over a refund for glasses that they never delivered. I ordered glasses back in September of 2023 and waited for 3 weeks before calling and asking what the delay was and was told that the laboratory supposedly didn't have my lenses in stock but they would be happy to upsell me to more expensive lenses that way I could get my prescription filled. I had already given them $198 after they twisted my arm with high pressure sales tactics (that's usually only seen in car sales) and I wasn't about to give them another dollar so I told them to cancel my order and refund my Flexible Spending Account and they said that they would do that within 3 days but no refund ever happened. I tried to open a dispute with the actual flexible spending account company but they didn't offer me much help and unlike a credit card company of flexible spending account company will not refund money no matter what kind of service you do or don't receive from a doctor's office so today I went back to their offices at chapel hill ophthalmology and demanded a refund and even then they didn't give me the full amount because they said that I owed them a $25 restocking fee to put the frames back in their system to be resold. I demanded my $25 stating that I do not owe them a restocking fee because they never delivered the glasses that I had ordered and they never told me there would be a restocking fee for the frames when I made the initial purchase. They finally relented and gave me another check for $25 so I walked out with almost the total that I paid minus $15 for the initial eye exam which is another story entirely. The opthamologist wasn't the one that even examined me it was the optometrist assistant who did most of the examination and I maybe saw the opthamologist for all of less than 5 minutes even though I am a type 2 diabetic with cataracts. He didn't seem very interested in taking my concerns about my retinal health seriously enough to give me more than just a cursory once over. So after a lot of wrangling with my VSP insurance they were able to reset my account so I can go to another ophthalmologist and get my glasses so hopefully this next office is better than chapel hill ophthalmology. Stay away from them. It's high pressure sales and shoddy care from the doctors. plus they never took my calls after a while because they got sick of me asking about that refund so they literally started hanging up on me which is very unprofessional. If I could give one star or zero stars I would. I think what a lot of places are used to is medicare recipients or cash pay patients going in and not caring how much they have to pay and just allowing these high pressure sales to happen because they have no other choice or they have enough money that it just doesn't matter. I am too young for medicare and have insurance and I'm very conscious of how much I can spend annually for an eye exam and new glasses so if you're like me do your due diligence and go elsewhere."
"I'd like to thank Lexi and Dr. Haas for a great experience during my routine eye exam. The staff were pleasant and helpful. The exam was completed quickly. The doctor took the time to answer my questions. They deserve a 5/5."
"My first visit was a success. I was treated respectfully and was seen promptly. I had high hopes walking in for my follow up visit today. Unfortunately, with no information shared or heads up given, I waited more than hour. When I inquired about the delay, my concerns were not met with empathy - was just told they didn’t have a room. It’s weird, because people with appts after mine were being seen. At the 1.5 hour mark, I inquired again. Got the same dismissive response from the front office staff. I can not recommend this office for vision care. I can highly recommend finding someone else. I know medicine in America is broken, but treating people with decency and respect is a non-negotiable for me."
"Best eye exam I've ever had in my life. Emily and Laryssa were so thorough, so kind, and so professional. They made the whole exam a breeze and made me feel so comfortable. Had to go ahead and make appointments for the rest of my family simply because of the treatment and how thorough Dr. Wood is as well!"
"Definite 5 stars - I had an issue that I noticed while picking up glasses at a mall store- they suggested going to Duke, UNC or a private ophthalmology practice. Some of the places I called had a multi month wait to get me in and Chapel Hill Ophthalmology was able to squeeze me in within the week. I had a VERY thorough eye exam, very different from reading the chart! While I did have to wait a bit it was fine since I was being seen so much sooner than initially expected. Dr. Wood was so thorough and the different techs were all great. Thank you!"
