"I really like this hospital a lot. Everything was really great the few times that I went there with my wife. All of the medical staff were very kind and respectful to her. She was extremely scared about being there because she had a cancer scare, which luckily she didn't have. The financial navigator is my problem. My wife went to his office both times she had to go to the hospital. Both times was very rude and disrespectful to her. My wife is very soft spoken and polite. This guy cut her off multiple times while she was trying to explain things to him. He was talking to her very loudly almost yelling even though the office is the size of a small walk-in closet. He just seemed like he didn't want to be there or like he didn't want to help her. He wouldn't answer her questions about filling out the paperwork. He told her there is a desk out in the hallway and she can fill out the papers out there. He basically showed no empathy for her situation and barely helped her with anything. You would think they would put someone more personable in a position where the job is to talk to people. I almost said something to him about the way he was speaking to her, but I didn't want to lose her financial assistance for her."
"Came in from Johnston Memorial Hospital because my 17yo is technically a pediatric patient, so he needed a pediatric team. He IS suffering from a gall stone in his tubes, which makes it worse. He can move wrong. It hurts. He was in so much pain last night that he couldn't lay down. He was in a ball. He's not one to talk, so the nurse button is not for him. I get we are not in icu, but this is a pediatric unit. CHILDREN are the patients, not parents. I should not have to tell you to come into the room and check on my baby. We came in Saturday 11/13 in the wee morning. The care team came in around 830, and they said they needed to consult with GI & surgery. They explained the procedures, that's about it. They put my son on NPO (nothing by mouth), making us think the procedure was going to be Sunday (today)....no it's Tuesday. Why are we here? Are you going to pay my bill? I am a single parent, with one income, and we've now been in the hospital just under 48 hours. He's just laying in bed, in pain, and I have to get a nurse to come check on him. If the doctor prescribed the medicine every 4 hours... do that. Don't wait for us to call you and tell you He's in pain. His levels do not warrant a weekend procedure according to GI. You get paid the big bucks - you pay for my son's procedures (yes, 2 of them). One to remove stone, one to remove the gallbladder. What warrants an emergency? Him being in extreme pain? He's on IV pain meds. He can not lay down without them. If this was your child - Mr I Make The Big Bucks - is this how you'd want your child treated? Five different doctors have come in here, only one with empathy. WakeMed didn't have a bed available. it is the only reason we are here. I'd rather be there. It's closer to home. If I have to pay for parking on top of this hospital bill, they are going to hear me roar. " we have the best team of doctors here," said one doctor. NO, YOU DO NOT. THIS PLACE SUCKS!!!"
"My fiancé has been getting cancer treatment here for the past few months and there is a laundry list full of problems that continue occurring week after week. One problem that always happens is whenever we go in to receive blood or platelets, the hospital is always short 4 nurses at least and the pharmacy is always backed up about 2 hours or more. An appointment for 10am will usually have us there until 4pm when it only takes about an hour or two to transfer the blood. Some staff members are great and want to do their best but mostly it’s an unprofessional environment where people sit around at their desks talking to their coworkers."
"I had hand burn from a kitchen fire and I was taken to UNC health to deal with the burn. The care provided by the doctor was OK/appropriate. However, the nurse wasn't particularly good at what they were doing. The doctor advice moving my hand to stretch my skin as it heals. For this, the wrap around my hand should be not too tight and should also account for the movement. The job done at the hospital does neither of these. They were too tight such that I couldn't move my fingers very easy and whenever I do, the wrapping would also shift significantly with gap opening in it and expose the wound to air. I had to redo the wrapping right after I got home after I realize this was the problem (the first two times had similar issues but I didn't realize it at the time). And what's worse is the billing department. I had to make some calls with my insurance to clear things out and by that time I was already billed and paid for more than what I needed to pay. When I contacted the hospital about getting my money back, they basically ignored my previous payment and said that I had to pay for the amount that I needed to pay again. They also said in their message that I should feel free to contact them if I have more questions yet the reply button is disabled. Edit: Oh, and I only remembered this again after seeing the other reviews. I came in an ambulance and then I was left there without anything what so ever for a few hours before someone came to look at me. I was literally left in a hallway and the person that pushed me there just left without saying a single word."
"Thank you UNC Health Chapel Hill for everything you have done over the years to help me. I never have a problem with any of the doctors that work with the team. I'm thankful for the knowledge that they do everyday. People have their reasons for certain doctors and hospitals they like but I prefer UNC Health Chapel Hill."
