Center for Virtual Imaging Trials (CVIT)

The Center for Virtual Imaging Trials (CVIT) is a cutting-edge institution located at 2424 Erwin Road, Durham, North Carolina, United States. As a National Center for Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering supported by the NIBIB and operated at Duke University, CVIT offers a virtual platform for evaluating medical imaging technologies from design to use.

One of the recent milestones achieved by CVIT is Mojtaba Zarei earning a doctoral degree. The institution provides an efficient methodology for evaluating imaging technologies and applications in silico using computational models that simulate the patient, the imaging system, and the image reader.

CVIT's three technology, research, and development endeavors focus on creating realistic computational models of human anatomy (virtual patients), state-of-the-art CT scanners (virtual scanners), and clinically relevant image analysis (virtual readers). These models work together to offer comprehensive resources and essential training to partners through collaborative projects, service projects, and training and dissemination efforts.

CVIT has presented 11 studies at the 2024 SPIE Medical Imaging conference and has been featured at the Center for Virtual Imaging Trials at RSNA 2023 in Chicago. The institution is affiliated with the National Centers for Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering, Carl E. Ravin Advanced Imaging Laboratories, Duke University Department of Radiology, and Duke University School of Medicine.
