Integrated Magnetic Imaging (IMI) / Montgomery Open MRI

"I had an appointment at IMI. My physician needed an MRI of my back because of the immense pain I was experiencing. I have had MRI's taken there before, but never with the open MRI machine. I asked why I wasn't on the usual type of machine. The technician was explaining to me that they had " a lot of people to get done...we are using this machine. " I had no problem, just wanted to know if I need to do anything different, is it just like the other where I lay on a table. She said yes. I have had to have MRI's every year or a couple times of year for at least 27 years, so I'm familiar with them. I know the more still you are, the better the image, the faster it's done. Well, she positioned me to start. I explained that I've had back surgery, I need a pillow or something to put under my surgery site. She told me I don't really have anything in this room, just a minute. She put what looked like a folded pillowcase near my surgery site. It was better than nothing. I asked for earplugs please. MRI machines are very loud. Every place I've used besides IMI gives earplugs to patients to cut out the loud banging the machine makes. I asked again. No response. Then, LOUD music began. Then, the machine started. It was deafening. I just wanted to be still, get done, and leave. My head was hurting from all the noise from music and the machine. The machine began moving a little as all the MRI's before. This scan was different though. Not being on the usual flat table was causing my back to be in excruciating pain. I didn't want to stop the MRI. If you stop, it stalls the process. I just wanted to be still and done. The stabbing pains in my back and leg, became too much. I asked to please stop, I need a pillow or can I please use the regular machine, please? I apologized and begged again to please use the other machine. This one is too painful. She paused and said we don't have one open I explained that I was sorry for stopping, but it is too painful to continue. I said I would wait for a machine. I apologized again, explaining that I have never stopped an MRI, but this was too painful. She told me I think I can put together enough to send if you can just stay there for 7 more minutes. Can you do that? She wasn't rude but I could tell she just wanted to get done. I had tears in my eyes from the pain. She said can you just stay for 6 minutes? Then, I'll send. You were moving so I don't know. I explained that I was sorry, my back and leg are jerking because it's so painful. She said just a few minutes, then I'm done. You will probably have to come back for another scan because this one.... well, next week after he sees this one. You will need another one. Why wouldn't the business not allow me to use the routine machine? I have had at least 1-3 MRI's annually at least the last 27 years because of my health condition. I have never stopped any MRI's or complained until this awful experience. This was truly the most painful, horrific MRI i have ever had. Just disappointing to be treated this way. ***I appreciate the apology. This wasn't my first experience with IMI. I have been other times, which consisted with waiting for hours, just as this past visit. While sitting and waiting; you can hear others say that they had to wait for extended time/ hour (s) past their scheduled appointment times as well. Waiting at IMI, is not a fluke, but more an issue. I have no intentions of returning to experience the long wait times again, but thank you. God bless."
