"I was out running errands in Durham and my car beeped with an urgent low oil message. I happened to be driving past Mr Tire and I noticed their garage doors up with one of the technicians in the garage. I pulled in to ask him if it would be safe for me to drive home to Chapel Hill with the low oil message. Another gentleman (maybe owner?) came out to ask what was going on. He was able to quickly get me in to add a little extra oil to my car. I was so thankful for them helping me out on such a short notice, and I think they were closing up for the day. It was almost 5 on a Friday. They went above and beyond to make me feel safe to get home. Thanks!"
"My experience yesterday and today at this location was unsatisfactory and I would not recommend this repair shop for any work. Unfortunately I did not read all of the recent reviews here before going to this shop. I received work that I did not request, and inadequate work on another service. When learning what work was done, I asked for the replaced parts back since those parts were relatively new and should not have needed to be replaced. First I was told the parts were all in a large bin together with other customers’ parts that needed to be sorted through. Next I was told that replaced parts are only returned if you ask for that in advance. Aside from that issue, all four of my tires had very low pressure when I picked the car up."
"Done with this location and Mr Tire franchise. I hate writing this, because front desk staff have always been good but, as the last shop left in downtown Durham, it's not worth the convenience. Over the past 5+ years of using them as needed: Didn't change oil filter during oil change, took two visits to balance tire, and today tech didn't show up for work for scheduled alignment. My cousin had a bad experience with Mr Tire in Charlotte; they screwed up a simple brake change that took him months and money to figure out. They corrected everything, but this is the basics...which is what a neighborhood shop is for."
"Almost every part of my experience was unsatisfactory. I came in and expressed that my largest concern was cost; I didn’t want expensive tires. I was then presented with (and received) what ended up being more expensive options than we’re actually available (checked the website after my visit). I guess this is my fault for not doing my research ahead of time, but, if you’ve expressed this concern, it seems shady to purposefully be clandestine about cheaper options. Additionally, I just bought a brand new tire after getting a flat. Thus, I asked them multiple times to place that new tire in my trunk after putting the new tires on. Not only did they not give me my tire back, they charged me for “recycling” it. I had to call back and re-ask them to give me my tire back, and they assured me that they would set it aside for pickup. When I arrive, I get an excuse that my tire was “accidentally” picked up, and there was no way to get it back. I was offered a free oil change (this location only); and they did not remove the recycling charge. So, they got a brand new $200 tire from me, for the price of a free oil change I’ll never use and a recycling fee. Lastly, ever since the tire change, my tire pressure light keeps coming on. I’ve driven miles at this point and have reset the tire pressure sensor multiple times. I’ll now have to take the car in for service at the dealership (and spend more money) to hopefully get this fixed. This place is lazy and shady; poor service all around. First and last visit, wouldn’t recommend."
"Be careful and don’t take their word as final. It seems they’re trying to take advantage of people who don’t know much about cars. I was told I had to replace two control arms from both of my front tires to get an alignment done. I declined and took my car to triple A which told me there was nothing wrong with those parts and that they were able to perform the wheel alignment just fine."
