The Brick

The Brick Theater, located at 579 Metropolitan Avenue in New York, United States, is a unique institution dedicated to presenting the work of emerging artists and experimental creators. Inspired by Hannah Arendt's concept of "The Banality of Evil," The Brick offers a diverse range of performances, including neo-noir courtroom dramas, interactive events, and new works by up-and-coming artists.

The institution hosts a variety of events, such as "The Circus is Coming to Town," "New Works 2024" nights featuring a lineup of talented artists, and "The Saga of the Shining Emblem" improv adventure show. Through group conversations, writing prompts, and movement exercises, performers at The Brick delve into hidden truths and explore what wants to be seen on stage.

Founded in 2002, The Brick has become a vital part of the New York artistic community, presenting hundreds of live performances each year at its two spaces, The Brick and Brick Aux. With a commitment to nurturing emerging talent and creating an inclusive artistic community, The Brick offers low-cost and sliding-scale ticket prices to make performances accessible to all. Take the train to Lorimer or Metropolitan to experience the innovative and boundary-pushing work at The Brick Theater.

"Good audience experience! Come right when house opens and go to the bathroom before the line forms!"

"I went for a drop in improv class that was scheduled for 3-5pm on 5/23 however when i got there the gate was down and i waited for 20 mins and no one showed up nor did i get an email about a schedule change. The one star is only because i didn’t get a chance to experience the class, i left after 20 minutes so im not sure if they opened up after i left but i would have appreciated a notice of changes like that."

"I've now heard from two theater makers who've presented their plays at The Brick and had terrible experiences with administrative staff. Staff members were hostile, litigious, and generally unpleasant. Having gone to The Brick for many theater things in the past, I will no longer be going to The Brick for anything, and I will be sure everyone I work with in the theater knows that they can expect to be treated with disrespect and hostility if they choose to present with The Brick."
