"Joann does a very nice thorough job of examining your skin and deep cleaning. The first time I went I did not enjoy that that I felt forced to buy Dermalogica products. After that, she hasn't asked me to buy anything else which is good. Overall, a clean space and HIGHLY RECOMMEND for the facial massage alone. She showed me pictures of healing her clients skin who have cystic acne that she has healed - and have a friend who also has skin improved since going to crystal palace. Give it a try! Regular facial is approximately $200 + tip."
"Joanne is really kind and takes her time caring for your skin. My appointment was around 2 and a half hours. I appreciated the thought she put into my skin and also appreciated her letting me know ahead of time how long it would take. She explained how she learned her gua shua techniques and how she really took the time to study up on her work. The massage at the end felt great. You may be upsold so just be prepared for that. I made an appointment for a microdermabrasion and said that I didn’t need anything else, but after speaking with Joanne, she advised that I get a lymphatic facial. I did, however, turn down the products she was selling because I use the same few products and don’t like risking a bad reaction. Unfortunately, I haven’t noticed any slimming effects or any difference in my skin from the microdermabrasion. However, I did come in with already clear skin and without any particular skin issues. For me personally, the $490 (for a microdermabrasion and lymphatic facial, after tip and tax) isn’t worth it, but maybe someone else with more severe skin issues would see a difference. Honestly, I was really surprised to see that the cost was more than the famous $350 fifth Avenue microcurrent slimming facial that includes microdermabrasion. It’s also my own fault for thinking that a massage, without more, could slim my face. I hope this helps someone else make an informed decision."
"Crystal Palace Beauty is a hidden gem, I selfishly almost don't want to leave a review for fear that it will be harder to book appointments. This is the best and thorough facial that you will find in NYC, and certainly for the affordable price points. I spend on average about 1/2 as much as I did at Christine Chin & Ling Spa, and the facials here are so much better- I always felt like the facials at Christine Chin + Ling Spa were surface level, these are much more thorough and cleansing. Joanne is so thorough and caring and has magic hands- for me, the extractions are very delicate and not painful at all. Her regime has changed my skin, and I am so thankful to her. During Covid19, I felt very safe with the rigorous safety standards that Joanne has implemented. Above and beyond."
"*Note: They have been working so hard to stay safe and clean everything in between clients with COVID-19. Every precaution is taken with sanitizing the air and surfaces. She is wearing full PPE and you're only removing your face mask during the facial portion. Clients are wearing face masks right before and right after the treatment. She gives you a plastic baggie to keep it in. Joanne is meticulous when it comes to cleanliness and it has only gotten more intense obviously with the pandemic. Get vaccinated or a covid test so you can schedule an appointment and your skin can be blessed with Joanne's hands! So where do I start this review? I've been coming here for ~6-7 years and have recommended Joanne to all my friends and family who are looking into improving their skin. This is hands down the best facial, most amazing facial, and life-changing experience you'll have! I look forward to these monthly, and it's part of my self care routine. She doesn't like to rush so please arrive on time because her schedules get packed back to back. She does not cut corners and uses quality products. She is extremely honest and creates a zen experience for these facial treatments. A customized facial starts with Joanne determining what is needed for your skin. Sometimes for me, it's hydration or other times, it'll be anti-acne. I appreciate how she consults on what your skin needs. If you are a new client, she explains everything that she's doing! I usually fall asleep and don't pay attention anymore so I might be missing some things (sometimes I add microdermabrasion which is extra charge): -Cleansing -Exfoliation -Extractions -Eye treatment -Cold spray or microcurrent tool -Lymphatic massage/drainage -Intense mask -Head massage -Shoulder and neck massage Skincare has been so important to me especially after my move to NYC where the pollution and environmental changes caused me to break out a ton. My skincare routine also wasn't in tip top shape, and I learned that I needed a ton of hydration. Suncreen is also key! It's hard though because I have sensitive skin and a lot sunscreens I tried broke me out so there was a lot of trial and error. Joanne is very understanding and caring. She suggested some products to use from Dermalogica which helped a lot. I still use some of them to this day! Just politely decline if you're not interested, but some of them are tried and true with her and clients rather than trying something new randomly. Facials are obviously for upkeep and you need to focus on your regular daily skincare routine in order to keep it in tip top shape! I am moving in a couple months to LA and am worried I won't ever find anyone that does amazing facials like Joanne. I am definitely scheduling an appointment whenever I'm in town since I plan to be back multiple times a year. I will miss Joanne and her facials so much, it's extremely bittersweet as I'm excited to move but want to take her with me! P.S. Please pay in cash if you can, they are a small business and would appreciate it! Also, prices are ~$200 per facial depending on what you get done, which is a steal for what is all included. Most facials you see at other places may range from $50-$100 which are basic and include less than half of what she offers in a customized facial. I consider this an investment into my well-being and skin, which is well worth it!!"
