"We are new to Montclair and found this salon recently. My son and I have both had our hair done here and they're fabulous. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and great stylists. Thanks, VJ!"
"I AM OBSESSED WITH MY HAIR!! Sabrina + Casie do my color + Joe cuts my hair. I get compliments on my hair daily. This salon is beautiful, cozy, inviting and so chill. No cool guys here- everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Only place and people I trust with my hair. A million percent recommend :)"
"Horrible experience. My stylist was Nicole. Initially, I liked her personality and thought the cut was decent but after this experience, I have to say she and the management are thieves, preying on customers, providing limited information (assuming people should just know), and providing sub par customer service. Stay away from this place and save your money. See details of my experience below: After reading good reviews and getting a recommendation from a friend, I made an appointment with the referred Stylist. This place was over 40 mins drive for me but I thought it seemed worth it. First, they asked me to share pics of what color i want so I did. Then, they asked me to come in for a strand test to see if the color I wanted to get would work.. i thought fair enough so I got there and the strand test did not work and obviously needed to get that strand re-dyed to match my current color. So, I asked the stylist if she had time for a haircut and she affirmed. SHE DID NOT TELL ME HER PRICING. After getting a bare basic TRIM (as I’m growing my hair), I go to the receptionist expecting to pay less than $100 for just a haircut and was charged a flat fee of $167. When I asked for a breakdown of the charge, none was provided. I left the place flabbergasted and followed up via a phone call asking to speak with the manager who initially blamed me for not asking for the haircut price and for not having the knowledge of what ‘Levels’ mean in Stylists and apparently, the stylist who worked on me was a Level 4. Disappointed, I reminded him that communication is two-way and absolutely mandatory as part of customer service. Either way, it was the salon and/or the stylist’s responsibility to communicate the estimates to me BEFORE performing any services. However, that was not done. Note, I don’t have very long hair and maintain a basic cut (which i trim every 3 months). I have never paid more than $80 with tip and blowout for a really really good haircut in some upscale neighborhoods in NJ and NY. Finally, he agreed to understand my point of view and offer a partial credit for ‘expensive haircuts’ or ‘color’ in the future. I declined and requested a reasonable partial refund. Couple of days went by and I got a text that the Haircut was $120 (and no refund will be offered for that) and the strand test and re-dye was $47 and that they could only offer a petty $20 refund. Note, NO ONE informed me before or during or even after when I reached that I would have to pay for the strand test And the Re-dye. THEY CHARGED ME a ridiculous $47 for it."
"Nicole is absolutely THE BESTTTTTT - twice a year she transforms my hair into absolute magic and I’m obsessed every time!!! I give her a general idea of the color vibes I want and the rest is up to her - never fails to amaze me by what she does! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ PS: everyone at Gumdrop is also super nice and amazing and I love the vibes!"
"UPDATE: got a call from salon after my review, they offered to return 110$ which was charged for glaze with no effect, they have also offered me a complimentary haircut so they can give me more layers in haircut. I’ll be taking that haircut soon. But I would advise to read my original review and take care of certain things if they are a first timer there. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Not happy with the overall experience they provided after charging 360$. I was told by two different hairdressers that charges are 220$ for haircut and single process hair color. when i got the bill there was an additional 110$ for a color refresher, this is 50% EXTRA of the initial Cost i was told twice!! on asking what is that, they weren't very clear, just said it was done for shine and color boost, I have black hair and wanted grey coverage, for which single process color was done, they said they would add some color to it so it gives a minor hue, the same color was applied on my hair since the color was just kept besides me in a bowl, in two steps in a gap of 15 minutes, they just said that second application was what i was charged additional 110$ for. No one told me that, and honestly, my hair is still black, since I didn't want any bleach to be used, shouldn't the hair dresser tell me that i would be charge DOUBLE of initial cost told to me ? For no visible change in look? I would never have opted that, I honestly feel it was not even done, same color was being applied in two separate steps, then it was charged as a tier3 hairdresser whereas it was done by an assistant hairdresser who would be tier 1, color went inside my ear as well, which i cleaned later using ear bud. After haircut, my face clothes all had loose cut hair, they don't even bother to brush that out of client! Also I wanted layers in my haircut, my hair was styled well and it looked good then, but after 2 days when there's no styling, I hardly see any layers, except for the bang at top that I requested. Hairdresser was working on two clients at same time and I really feel she just rushed my haircut and covered that up with styling. Make sure that you don't settle for this when paying this much. See the picture, my hair color for which i was charged 220$ so it looks burgundy, it’s still black. I feel totally ripped of 360$ i paid, i was charged 50% extra without telling and no visible change! I'm not going back."
