"The place we originally wanted to go was packed and saw this restaurant next to it with no wait. I’m grateful the restaurant was busy cause we hit a gold mine at this place! The ambiance is a modern sleek feel and the bartender was very hospitable. The bartender was informative about what they were out of. Prohibition has very good selection of beers that we throughly enjoyed. Okay onto the food, it is a 10/10 with the wings (gluten free) with the Alabama white BBQ sauce on the side; wings fried and seasoned perfectly honestly didn’t really didn’t the sauce. I ordered the Prime Rib French Dip and is one of my favorite dishes now; bread was fantastic, ribeye seasoned well and the au jus dipping was packed with flavor and the fries that came with it was one of the best ones I’ve had in awhile. *service was 3.8 due a host/hostess being nonexistent or even server helping us being seated so that’s why we decided to sit at the bar. Then the bartender was friendly and served us well."
"I took my daughters for New Years Day, our first time visiting and we had a very nice time, the fries were no longer hot when all the food came out together. The dishes that were hot, were delicious and of course they ordered dessert. We walked to the river afterwards to enjoy the view of the Tappan Zee."
"Prohibition River is great mainly because of the owner who is a hands and manager and expects his employees to be focused on the job at hand. That’s not to say he is overly strict. He seems to have a great rapport with his staff and their is an obvious mutual respect. He values the staff and I believe that they value him. The restaurant has a warm casual atmosphere and the menu is unique when other restaurants seem to have menus that are more “standard” and predictable. His chef knows what he’s doing as each dish is cooked perfectly to order. The wait staff are always friendly and I truly believe that they value their customers and appreciate that they chose Prohibition River. The bar tenders are personable and sometimes, if you’re lucky, Oliver, the owner takes the reigns behind the tap. There’s also a catering area with a full bar upstairs where the hold special events. Everyone should experience Prohibition River to experience all that I have spoken about about. PS. Just an FYI. … Oliver just took over a very different kind of restaurant that has been next to his for years. He closed it for less than a month and made it new again with improvements in the seating and the comfort level all around. It was looking and feeling a bit old and tired. The previous owner had admitted to me that he himself was tired after years of being there. Lucky for us in Nyack it still exists under the same name but with a new brightness and lively hood. With a new ice cream bar and a new brand of ice cream and of course a new menu. We can thank Oliver for bringing his business expertise next door to “Temptations”. It’s great to see it bought back to life. The way only a true restauranteur could possibly make it happen."
"Food was really good- have the prime rib empanadas for sure! We can't stop talking about them. The ketchup was surprisingly delicious (I usually hate ketchup), and housemade pickles were yummy too. The inside looks like it was originally a historic building, and they've done a nice job with making it feel hip but homey. It was a pretty crowded night for outdoor dining, and we had the inside mostly to ourselves on a Saturday night. Lovely place for a date night!"
"My wife and I went here during a recent trip to Nyack. The service was excellent and attentive. For the appetizer we had black and blue wings (star of the show) and we had the fried calamari. The calamari was decent, however it was a little overly greasy. For dinner we split the French dip sandwhich with French fries. The fries were seasoned excellently and the gravy was very good, however the sandwich was a little lacking in the meat department. Overall, a fun place for some better-than-average bar food. Great decor and atmosphere."
