Reviews
"I looked forward to my birthday dinner for weeks. After hearing rave reviews, my expectations were high and I was certain I picked a great spot. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to mission ceviche. Despite my reservation of 6 being made weeks in advance, we were seated directly at the front of the restaurant surrounded by a ton of foot traffic, and when requested to move, we were refused. In January in New York, sitting right by the incredibly drafty door made for a shivery dinner experience. I left my coat on the entire time. I am not exaggerating when I say my hair became frizzy because of the wind from the door. Our waiter, Pierre, was incredibly off putting and rude. Unprompted and unannounced, he physically took the menu out of my hands and told me what to order for a drink. When I ordered a dinner of just ceviche, he pushed me to order an additional entree which doubled the cost of my meal. He was clearly trying to upcharge me and told me that just the ceviche was never going to fill me up. I’m a small woman and felt really pressured to order extra. In the end, I had to throw out half of my ceviche because I was too full to finish dinner, let alone have room for a birthday dessert. The food was fantastic. The service was awful, and I left feeling uneasy and let down."
"Absolutely wonderful place for lunch and dinner. The hostess (Mr. Pierre Ratel) and waiters were attentive and friendly. Their dishes are not only visually stunning but also delicious! And don’t skip out on dessert. Our fav is the chirimoya mousse."
"I wrote one of the very first reviews for Mission Ceviche on another ‘popular’ restaurant app over 4+ years ago. It’s still here and I’m still a regular customer. Yes, it’s a little pricey – but it’s a complete night out! The exceptional Peruvian cuisine, the front bar & wait staff are great. The music selection immediately puts me in a party mood. Here are some recent menu recommendations. Enjoy !!!"
"My recent visit to Mission Ceviche in NYC was a mix of highs and lows. The culinary experience was undoubtedly outstanding, with each dish impressively crafted. However, the atmosphere, while pleasant, felt cramped. The service aspect significantly impacted the overall experience. We experienced a notable delay in receiving our main course, a concern given the restaurant wasn’t particularly busy. This was compounded by the disappearance of our initial waiter. A key point of contention was our interaction with Pierre Ratel, the maitre d’. His approach was off-putting, seemingly urging us to order more or leave, particularly as we were still enjoying our meal. This feeling was accentuated by his haste in bringing the check unrequested, following a drastic change in his behavior when asked for his name. Such experiences unfortunately overshadowed the exceptional food and suggest a need for improvement in customer service, especially in ensuring all guests are treated with equal respect and professionalism."
"It's a great Peruvian restaurant located on Second Avenue. Before starting my review, just so you know, it's very expensive. Like Madison Avenue-type expensive:) The service is great, and the waiters are friendly. You should definitely try the grilled octopus. I highly recommend sea food over steak and chicken options."
