"I don’t have enough good things to say about the l&d and mother baby team at Saint Francis, every single nurse was AMAZING!! If you want a low intervention/ unmedicated birth this is seriously the place for you! The midwife who delivered my son was an actual angel and was so knowledgeable and helpful in managing my pain without meds."
"I waited 6 months to write a review to just be sure my post partum hormones weren't causing me to be too emotional. I had my first baby at Henrico Doctors. Wonderful experience. My doctor works at St. Francis, and he was absolutely awesome through the delivery. However, the rest of my experience wasn't so great. When I arrived, I was scheduled to be induced. It wasn't a surprise for me to be there. I got a room with a broken stretcher. It seemed like they didn't really expect me, even though they had me in the system. When I say broken, the left stirrup was broken, they joked a bit about it. For the first time in my life, someone had to poke me twice for an IV, but I 100% believe it's because she found out I was a nurse and got nervous. I've had the same thing happen. During my first labor, I was given medication so I would relax a little before an epidural. The nurse anesthetist I had at St. Francis absolutely said no, even though I was afraid I'd jump. What I can say is that this epidural worked, when my first one at the other hospital didn't. I just didn't like how I was treated during that. I've seen a lot of things go wrong, and it's given me some anxiety. She acted like I was drug seeking. I just didn't want to jump when getting poked in the back with a needle while having contractions. I wasn't checked for quite a while. When I was, surprise! Baby was on his way out. Pushed that big boy out in less than 3 minutes. Was left in a pool of blood for over 3.5 hours, covered only in a sheet, nobody bothered to even remove the catheter from my spine. I was told my nurse was attending an emergency. As an ER nurse, I can say I'd always have someone check on my patients when in that situation. Maybe you all need radios for better communication. I was told to walk to the bathroom naked to pee, (I had to urinate for hours before someone from the next shift came in, it was the only time I attempted to use the call light). They left the curtain in front of the door open and told me it was nothing nobody had seen before. I still had the catheter in my back. They took it out in the bathroom. I was also unsure if I'd get a room with a hospital bed. They told me it was possible I would be on that broken stretcher all night. It really hurt my back. I get my patients a hospital bed if they're stuck in the ER. The minute I said that, they suddenly had a room. My husband had nowhere to stay, the cot they had had no sheets. I eventually told him to go get rest at home. No dinner. By the time I got a room, kitchen was closed. Then, because of the fast birth, my son started spitting up meconium. He actually started that in the labor room, but I was ignored the first time I brought it up, until they checked his Spo2 sats and deep suctioned him. Once in mother/baby, they listened after the second time too. I know most people stay longer, I wanted out the next day. We packed up our stuff and I WALKED out after discharge. Someone was nice enough to get us a cart for our things to bring down to the car. I can recommend my Obgyn, but I cannot recommend having a baby here. The director called me and left a voice mail. Because I have a friend on the unit, I didn't call back. I wasn't trying to upset anyone. I just wish I had gone back to Henrico."
"My grandson Silas Roldan born today 6/19/23 at 12:14 am , the nurses are awesome , they all came to the room in the moment of my daughter was pushing, and they encourage my daughter during delivery and they all very sweet compassion, polite ,EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE."
"Labor and delivery here exceeded my expectations. Nurses and NICU Nurses are all amazing. My first delivery elsewhere compared to my second here.. nothing compared to how amazing St. Francis is."
