"I went to another doctor for my first consultation and that doctor was a complete jerk! I then had another consultation with Dr Thorton and it was like night and day! Dr Thorton was very respectful knowledgeable Hambleton and had great bedside mannerism! The first doctor I went to made me feel like my life was over Dr Thorton gave me hop and made me feel like I was important and not just another patient! I highly recommend him!"
"Dr. Thornton is amazing! I saw him at the now-defunct Midwest Proton Radiotherapy Institute in Indiana, and he was brilliant and warm and very concerned with my care. I wish I had met him sooner - I had gamma radiation on another tumor and suffer side effects from it that the proton beam would have avoided. He is as kind as he is smart - a lot of both!"
"Dr Thorton and the staff were warm , welcoming, professional and friendly. I got an intuition of his good spirit. We were there three weeks ago for a consult because Proton is not offered in our state. Looking forward to some positive results after Proton treatments."
"We THOUGHT we had found a great doctor and some good references from Dr. Thornton. Months after the fact, we are wondering why doctors are starting to treat my wife more harshly (and dropping her as a patient), and his report from her visit, sent to multiple specialists is apparently why. We found this paper by way of my wife's ENT specialist, who had received it from Dr. Thornton. This report was not made know to us, AT ALL. He has single-handedly DESTROYED my wife's desire to get anything treated anymore. We told the doctor, and have proof and records: "My wife has Von willebrand's Disease and also has intercranial hypertension that was diagnosed initially by finding papilledema by the optic nerves in 2014. She tried other medications for it and had allergies to the medicine as well as allergies to the topamax so she had to find a pharmacy to compound a suspension topamax for us" What he told other doctors: "[She] is a very complicated woman with over 20 allergies and a long list of complaints SUPERIMPOSED on a PRESUMED diagnosis of Von Willebrand's disease . . .In 2014 she began having headaches which SOMEHOW were attributed to papilledema. She SOMEHOW found her way to taking liquid Topamax for this which has helped her headaches. There was NEVER A DEFINITIVE CAUSE OF THESE HEADACHES..." Doctor told us: "Here's the hemangioma (outlined it on computer screen and printed the picture for us). I would do the proton therapy procedure here, but we don't have the facilities for it. There are only two in the country that could treat with protons, Harvard, and California" (don't remember the name of the place he mentioned)" Doctor told other doctors (verbatim from his report): "I explained to her this was a superficial lesion that would not give her any difficulty...she has 'latched onto this as the cause for her headaches' . . . I explained to her that proton therapy on a fractionated bases was simply not appropriate for this . . .[treatment] with protons is quite complex and reserved for my AVM patients" He says to us: "Gamma knife surgery around here wouldn't be a good idea because of the rods that hold your head still, due to your Von Willebrand's Disease. UVA uses a bite block so it wouldn't affect your Von Willebrands" (he then gave us the name of a doc at UVA for her head and two docs names for ENT/surgery for her gum) He tells doctors: "I explained to her that we had an excellent gamma knife here at Riverside and that also have one at UVA. She wanted the names of ENT surgeons in this area that could address her sinus and "SOMEWHAT RELUCTANTLY" I gave her the names of Dr. *** and Dr. ***" Doctor to us: "Yes, I can feel the bump you are talking about. Yes, I see the discoloration in your gum." Doctor to Doctor: "I could not appreciate any tenderness over her scalp...I could not palpate any lesion. Her oral exam was unremarkable. I honestly could not see a hemangioma or change in pigmentation in the gum in the area that she was complaining of." Needless to say, the doctor LIED TO US horribly; he probably thought we'd never see his report and would be none-the-wiser when her doctors started dropping us a patients. If you have multiple medical diagnoses, go ahead and see this doctor if you want to be systematically dropped from the rest of your specialists. He might be ok if all you have is full-blown, text-book cancer"
