ABT Counseling - Roanoke Office (Associates in Brief Therapy, Inc.)

"Had Caroline Freeman as a therapist in 2022. She does give some good techniques to help with anxiety but overall I didn't feel like I was speaking to a human. This is more so like talking to a wall. Had an anxiety attack when I was on the phone with her near the end of the call and she had another appointment which is understandable but when I talked to her the following week she had the nerve to tell me that my anxiety attack was only 5 minutes. As much education as she has she should have enough sense to know that just because you get off the phone with a client doesn't mean that the anxiety goes away or the issues just stop, because they don't. She also didn't want to tell me for some strange reason that I had PTSD. Even my family thought that that was odd. How do you try to hide a diagnosis from someone? I was very upset with her for that. Also she for some reason she started to not schedule with me anymore. Went from once a week to then just booking once in a month to nothing at all when I really needed the help. I'm not mad that she did that though because honestly I wasn't comfortable talking to her the only reason why I kept seeing her is for the techniques. She was supposed to give me another and I asked her about it but she didn't do it. I get that people aren't perfect but she should really do better and try giving a more human and softer approach. How she went about things just wasn't right."

"Waited a week and no contact from this company after providing them with all of the information they requested. I contacted them and was told that they wouldn’t accept Medicare patients with Aetna supplemental even though their website clearly states that they do. Was told that I could pay them a large amount of money if I wanted to….????Incredibly unprofessional and completely indifferent to my my needs. Save your time and go to someone that actually wants to provide therapy care."

"If you have medicaid, just go somewhere else. I called wanting to see a specific therapist, but was told they weren't accepting patients after I said I have medicaid. Then they recommend a therapist at the salem office and tell me she's great! I go see her several times and she barely says anything during the visits. Things were disclosed during the session that should've prompted a serious response, but it seemed more like she wanted to blame the victim. I ignored this and continued because I was desperate. Then during the last session, she fell asleep several times. That was it. I called the roanoke office back and politely said that it didn't work out, instead of saying she fell asleep, and I wanted to see someone else. They tried to get me to see a resident. I explained that the issues we were dealing with were extremely serious and I needed someone experienced. I was told that that's the only person I could see with medicaid and that she had enough experience. So if you need help with serious issues and have medicaid, look somewhere else."
