"Erin McCartney works with patients with gestational diabetes. She saw me through my diagnosis and treatment during my pregnancy, checked in on me while I was in the hospital after giving birth and has continued care during my postpartum period. I have never in my life been so impressed by a medical professional. She truly cares for her patients and it shows. I can’t thank her enough for her compassion during this incredibly difficult time in my life!"
"The ultrasound tech “Candace” at the Newport News location makes it not worth it to go to this doctor. She is awful, and laughs at you if you make a mistake in understanding her. Then gets frustrated! She activated my anxiety all over the place. Not cool"
"This doctor dismissed my severe medical anxiety during my pregnancy COMPLETELY. I have struggled with severe anxiety attacks for several years and I am under a doctors care for it. Before even listening to my heart, she told me that I may have a cardiac issue that was causing the anxiety , and NOT anxiety itself. When you have a diagnosed medical condition such as I did and try to discuss your fears and concerns with your doctor and you are completely dismissed, it is a very scary and frustrating place to be. I’ve suffered 4 anxiety attacks over the fear this doctor tried to instill in me and have been cleared with no cardiac issue. Did not listen to me at all, had me in tears, and no bedside manner. And she does not care. Terrible doctor to have at a high risk practice. I would advise you to ask for someone else at this practice. I’m still suffering from her lack of empathy and concern for what I was experiencing. Looks like I am not the only one who’s had an experience like this."
"This doctor was very rude to me when she saw me thru my pregnancy in 2014, as part of the rotating EVMS maternal fetal medicine group. She tried to give me a Remicade infusion at approx. 35 weeks knowing it goes into the baby with unknown long-term affects. My GI doctor supported me in refusing it, but Dr.Berkely made me feel stupid and belittled my choice. I am so thankful I did not listen to her because immediately after pregnancy I was given the Remicade infusion and come to find out, I had developed antibodies to it! She would have put my baby at risk for NO reason!!"
"Terrible bedside manner! I’ve never left a doctors office, especially one of this magnitude, and felt so discouraged or frustrated. It took nearly 4 hours to be seen, which is not the basis of my complaint. Dr. Berkely opened the door to our room and asked us who we were, followed by “what is concerning your OBGYN group to send you over here?” Followed by “ummmm, umm, okay, ICP, ummm damn” when she remembered my lab results she said that she wasn’t that alarmed by my numbers and that I “should” be okay taking medication and possibly delivering at 38 weeks. I asked her why my OB, along with every other ICP related case was adamant on 37 week delivery as the increase of stillbirth jumps to 15% after 37 weeks and she stated that that is old studies..... so I’m supposed to just be comforted by the word of ONE doctor versus every other study/ Dr out there when it comes to a life threatening situation involving the life of my unborn child? The reason she classified the other studies as “old” was not because the increased risk of fetal demise is incorrect, but because the lung/development for some babies born early is obviously somewhat increased... long story short, I’m advised to risk the life of my child in a less than 5 minute, nonchalant manner. I was left feeling heartbroken, frustrated, belittled, defeated.. all the things an expectant mother does not deserve to feel when seeking answers for the health of her and her child. I will absolutely dispute the way we were treated and I will absolutely dispute the way/time that my child is brought into this world for both of our safety. I would NEVER recommend anyone to this practice and this will be followed through. Not only did I feel insulted, but she also insulted the intelligence of my OB group for an earlier case of pneumonia where Dr.Berkely stated “damn, have you ever had pneumonia before you were pregnant? You didn’t even have pneumonia this time, it amazes me how suddenly everyone has pneumonia once they’re pregnant!” and continued to roll her eyes and curse about my diagnosis, which was completely irrelevant. I’m still mind blown by my entire experience and the audacity of this doctor. Lastly she said that she was going to review our ultrasound and return which she never did, instead she sent her nurse back in to dismiss us and upon us asking where the doctor was we were told “she’s in with another patient now.” So we weren’t able to address any questions or concerns. Completely unacceptable."
