Gray Ghost Vineyards, located at 14706 Lee Highway in Amissville, Virginia, is a family-owned winery that has gained international acclaim for its fine wines. The vineyard's Vertical Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Sauvignon Tasting events are highly sought after, with limited seating that often sells out quickly. Visitors can enjoy a seafood boil and two glasses of wine for $65 per person.
Gray Ghost's dedication to quality is evident in their hand-picked grapes and aging process in premium oak barrels. The winery offers a range of full-bodied reds and lighter-styled wines, all crafted to enhance the fruit character. This commitment to excellence has earned Gray Ghost the title of "Best of the East" by Vineyard and Winery Management Magazine for four consecutive years.
Visitors to Gray Ghost can expect a warm welcome from knowledgeable staff, as well as southern hospitality. The winery boasts beautiful picnic grounds and spacious indoor facilities for events and tastings. Guests can also inquire about winery events, tours, and the popular volunteer harvest program.
Owners Al and Cheryl Kellert have been recognized for their contributions to the wine industry, including receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award from Southern Illinois University and the 2023 Wine Grape Productivity Award from the Atlantic Seaboard Wine Association. "We had the absolute pleasure of visiting Gray Ghost for the Holiday cork display. We enjoyed a tasting with the owner's daughter (I am sorry I did not catch her name) but these 5 ⭐️s are for her! Exemplary service and fantastic wines!!"
"A longtime Virginia winery that offers a great tour of their facilities. A word about these: they are state of the art and simply very cool, especially the wine cellar (pun intended!). Our wine tasting was held by one of the co-founders and owners, Al Kellert, and it’s clear he loves his job and knows about his wines. Book ahead for the tour and tasting if you have a large group. They’re celebrating 29 years now so enjoy the mini museum-like display in the main area that tells the vineyard’s history (and for the adorable pix of the his and his wife’s (Cheryl) grandchildren). I would deduct a 1/4 star if I could because there aren’t many nibbles on the menu, but you can carry your own picnic to enjoy with your bottle of wine (you cannot bring your own alcohol!). Visited as part of a Spirited Wine winery and vineyard tour and it was lovely. Great experience."
"Update - 3/25/23 - Still a great place and the staff are just as friendly and knowledgeable. Very Friendly and informative staff. Great atmosphere and the wine was amazing."
"My boyfriend and I stopped in to Gray Ghost Vineyards while doing a wine tasting day in the area as there are a few close by. We had a great experience with our tasting. The property is beautiful. We received great service and left with a few bottles of wine. We came on a very cold day so we are looking forward to coming back in the spring to enjoy some of the beautiful outdoor seating areas."
"This place offers around 10 wines for a $5 tasting. About half are whites or reds and a dessert type. The tasting room is small and will hold about 8 or more at a time per table. The rest is open space or lounging area on the second floor. Outside there is a pleasant seating area and a large apple tree to relax under. Parking is a gravel lot and very spacious and flat unlike other wineries. As of 2016 Va Go pass provides free tasting. Though at first they did not seem to understand what my card was for. Recommended double check the site for instructions on using the pass."
