Reviews
"Updating this review after living at The Standard for two years: The Standard at Charlottesville is the epitome of faux luxury and is a rather poorly managed property as a whole. While on the outside the place may seem sublime and exciting with all of the amenities and perks that are promoted, this place is anything but. Amenities: The pool is barely open/available during the school year and is always conveniently "under maintenance." The gym is randomly closed at hours length for "cleaning" and the other amenities require reservation for singular use ahead of time. The printing never worked when it was free and then they started charging residents for printing once it started working again. Units: The apartments themselves are okay, but were not cleaned too thoroughly ahead of move in. Things like dishwasher, washing machine, etc. frequently break down and maintenance takes their time getting back to you. On top of that, they will be sure to charge you exorbitant fees for "damages" after moving out with vague explanations of what the charges are for. Their Google rating is inflated because they offer raffles and prizes if residents leave a good review. This place is way too expensive for what it is: Do not fall for this trap."
"Terrible experience. Each of my roommates were charged $700 upon leaving for replacements that should have been $100-200. Facilities never upkept. Parking and rent way too expensive for what it is. Management never responsive and predatory"
"The Standard is a great name for this place as it is exactly as it suggests- average, adequate, nothing special. Management is a nightmare, two out of three move-ins my apartment has been filthy, maintenance is slow, amenities and furniture are poor quality (yet they will charge a LOT for replacement and will not provide receipts to justify cost), I only found out pelotons could rust due to their state at the gym, 2/5 treadmills have been broken for an extended period (am hopeful at least one has been fixed by now), black mold was found in my shower at move in (have since addressed this myself due to the speed of maintenance, but should have been disclosed prior as mandated by law), fire alarms are constant- I’ve never experienced so many drills or building wide evacuations elsewhere, and the stated rent increase next year is crazy for the quality of the apartment. Most furniture was stained or falling apart at move in, dust covered almost every surface of my room (and they will still charge me if I do not remedy this by move out). I am well aware I signed an as-is lease agreement, but the alternative would be having no place to live so to justify the state of the apartment is lazy and does not address the true issues with quality control. The pool wont open til early May (could be lying and will open later) though they have the facilities to open earlier. Update: they have once again delayed the opening of the pool due to not having the right parts, though this should have been addressed well before the proposed open date. Finally, reviews are heavily inflated due to rewards for five star ratings."
"all of the amenities are never up-kept: the pool was closed extremely early before many could use it and was opened once everyone left the standard for summer, the bathrooms are always filthy and the locks don’t work, the floors in the hallways are only cleaned before new residents come in once a year, the printer they advertised as free ended up never working and then they began charging us for it, and there are never the monthly events that the standard promised. terrible experience given how ridiculously expensive it is"
"I currently am a resident at the Standard and I love living here! The amenities are amazing, including the rooftop pool and tanning bed. The apartment complexes are also newly renovated and compared to other apartments are in much better condition. The staff are also very friendly and super accommodating if we have maintenance issues"
