"My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful tour from Anne Spencer's granddaughter. The stories she shared of visiting her grandmother, the Harlem renaissance poet and civil rights activist, and playing in the gardens brought back sweet memories of visiting my own grandmother and playing on her front porch. The house, located in a historic neighborhood, is almost completely intact with the original furniture, family photos and notes tacked up on the kitchen cabinet. The garden is peaceful, shady and enclosed in a way that allows you to lose the sense of being on a city lot. You need to make an appointment to tour the house but the gardens are open to the public."
