"Imagine being in the WORST pain of your life. It's 4am & you've had to make the decision to go to the ER, but only to arrive & be laughed at. My husband drove me to ER that morning. I was doubled over with pain that I could barely sit up or stop crying. I was moved into a wheelchair & was brought into triage. When asked what was wrong I explained "rectal spasms, abdominal pain along w/EXTREMELY painful acid reflux" ,None of which was being fully resolved with over the counter pain killers..After hearing my answer not only was it met with laughter from 2 people (a younger sounding woman and a filipino or asian man) but also w/a follow up question of "rectal spasms??"..As if that was not a thing.. (I've learned recently that MANY women with endometriosis (such as myself) suffer from this issue monthly and I was not alone) So to hear laughter as if it was a weird "self diagnosis" was angering. Due to the pain I allowed my husband to answer the rest of the questions. I've was given an IV with nothing attached to it and put into the waiting room where I cried and writhed in pain almost falling out of the wheelchair a few times for what my husband frustratedly kept saying was over an hour of waiting. Time spent in pain listening to the laughter & casual conversation from the waiting room staff, triage staff and security was enraging.THE SOUND OF JOY from people who are "helping you" is unbelievable during times of peril for you personally. I understand that you need to talk but it should be at a low tone where the MANY SICK PEOPLE right in front of you cant hear...it seems very inconsiderate and rude in my opinion. I was finally brought back into a hallway chair where I would remain for the rest of my visit. I listened as my husband spoke with a nice NP named Dawn. She listened to all the issues and scheduled at CT scan. A man ,whose name I later learned was "Danny", (middle aged white, shortish, gentleman with a closely shaven or balding head) came to take me to CT. THIS WAS SOME OF THE WORST CARE IVE EVER HAD IN RADIOLOGY. He rolled me into the room & left me sitting by the bed for a WHILE, as I again had to listen to casual, frustrated conversation between the techs, as I sat hunched over and crying in pain. He came back into the room and walked to the opposite side of where I was. He simply said "get into the bed, feet here, head there"...NO ASSISTANCE was provided by him to get me there safely. I was told to put my arms up. He explained that he was gonna flush the IV. (His tone was VERY nonchalant, very "I should've called out today"). He flushed the IV. He then ,without promoting, moved to the next step of adding CONTRAST. I work in radiology & have had many CT scans so LUCKILY I was prepared for the warming feeling that then rushed through my body. BUT he doesn't know that and NOT once did explain to me what he was doing and how it would effect me. This is a NO NO!!! You should ALWAYS tell a patient, especially one who is in obvious distress, what is happening and what to expect. He did not care...After it was completed he told me to get up and get back to my chair. AGAIN with NO assistance from him. He then rolled me back to my hallway chair and left. Not a word was spoken. Not even a "feel better". Wow! I was finally brought pain medication via an IV. But they brought me NOTHING to take away the pain of the acid reflux. I advised the nurse of this and ultimately ended up asking if I could take the bottle of antacid I had in my purse. She said yes and watched me drink it straight out the bottle. The rest of the evening went as expected when you've been given morphine. I was finally discharged around 10/1030am. I have a LONG history with Chesapeake Regional. It's always been a good experience for me there. I now live in Portsmouth and took the drive just to get care there. This evening has put a HUGE damper of my outlook of them and even my husband mentioned that "things have changed here" .. the only reason this review is given 2 stars is because of care of NP Dawn."
"This is the worst hospital in the world!!!! I wouldn’t take my dog their I would rather be in prison.their is handful of nurses that where fantastic they know who they are a the food staff where the best.this hospital should be shut down!!! I was abused by staff,I was overdosed an covered up,an if that wasn’t enough i was sent a bill for their negligence.the staff person that took me to ct scan should be prosecuted for assault that he did to me.that dude should be in jail he slammed me in to walls, triedy catheter out,and slammed on ct table an cause my blood patch to rupture an caused second surgery.i promise u if u love your loved ones you wouldn’t take them their.iam going call every news channel, every senator anybody that will listen to my story.is so bad even the patient coordinator lady COLASITO is a joke!!!!!"
"The few times I’ve ever had to come here was in the emergency room. The staff there were absolutely amazing to me and my family. They work so hard to make sure everyone gets taken care of to the fullest of their abilities. The pharmacy staff has a great sense of humor and very welcoming. All in all every staff member ive met was great to me."
"Omg: I was so nervous for my surgery here yesterday, especially after reading reviews. I arrived in full panic mode and crying, the works, but my team took excellent care of me. Everyone was friendly and understanding. Surgery went smooth and was honestly the best experience I’ve ever had with any procedure ever. If I ever need something done in the future, I would do my best to have it done here. I cannot for the life of me remember my main nurse’s name who took care of me for the two hours leading up to my surgery but it felt like a therapy session. She was so kind and comforting and did her best to distract me. And the guy who was with me post op was incredibly helpful and kind as well. Facility felt clean and I felt safe with them."
"I just wanted to say thank you so much for the entire staff that took care of me yesterday . I had lumbar surgery and 99% of the people who I came in contact with were friendly , caring & very professional . There was one staffer who cursed multiple times about the computers being trash & she also did not know how to operate the medication bank to get the medication I needed so she gave me Tylenol instead of the recommended medication . I was not bothered by this because I was focusing on my surgery. I personally have to thank dr David Goss for his amazing skills & an wonderful woman named May who wheeled me out to our vehicle . I have been trying to get some help for months and SMOC got me set up here for the surgery and everything was flawless from then on . As I have no insurance every where I went before here just gave me narcotics and told me to go somewhere else ! It was depressing & I thought I may never walk again . Today the day after surgery I’m walking around very well . They did charge me a lot of paper rectangles but it was worth every one to get my health back ! God bless everyone for your kindness and help . I will definitely say some prayers for blessing to come for all of you ."
