"A went to this restaurant with a very open mind. And I was very excited to try this African restaurant in Newport News. But unfortunately, it was a big letdown. The rice was burnt if you ever smelled or had burnt popcorn. That's what the rice smelled like and it was a horrible taste. The chicken was overly cooked and chewy. I ended up giving it to my dogs. I can say that the sauce the chicken was in was excellent. The meat pie was very doughy and hardly meat-filling. Other than that 1 star for this place and I wouldn't return."
"Pepper soup with goat and fufu is my go to !Not a fan of banku because it’s sour like a lemon but I understand the appeal. Plantains aren’t sweet which I don’t mind. The okra soup with the snapper and fufu is glorious. The shrimps are tasty and their meat pies tasted fermented and . The jollof is delicious but sometimes it tastes like it was barbecued. They have pineapple and hibiscus juices both with ginger in them and they are my faveeee!"
"The plantains were delicious which is why I gave this 2 stars instead of 1. The spinach stew was not flavorful at all, just tasted like spinach water. This is my second time ordering here and sadly it’s my last."
"Saturday, 11/18 was my first visit to Lormnava and I wasn't sure what to order. The gentleman there asked, "what have you heard about?'" He suggested a meal that I agreed to. Funny thing, I was $2 short of cash and he accepted what I had. I waited the 15 minutes in my car for and he was kind enough to bring it out me. The first thing I did was to take a long sip of the pineapple-ginger drink- so refreshing! The entree was a big portion, so much so that the leftovers made a meal the next day. It was so flavorful and delicious (spiced to perfection). I will definitely be going back."
"Update: I came back to try the pepper soup, meat pie and jollof rice. The soup was very peppery but not overwhelming and I love that , the chicken was very tender and good portion. The fufu was soft and big portion. The meat pie was big but mostly bread, it was baked which I liked. The jollof rice was fluffy and soft but you could tell the pot the rice was cooked in hot scorched. This is my first time here at this restaurant I placed an order online for palmnut soup with chicken, and jollof rice with fish and a beef pie (empanada). A few problems ; they said my order will be ready by 12:30 but I actually didn’t get it until 1:15 And they didn’t have any meat pies so I had to substitute for plantains. I’m not sure but I’ve been to other African restaurants in the 757 and even though you order ahead it seems like they don’t start cooking your food until you arrive to pick up. I’ve never had jollof rice but what I had tasted pretty good, and the fish was nicely seasoned. I’ve never had palmnut soup either, it had a nice taste to it but it was a bit oily I’m sure if that is how it’s supposed to be, and the two chicken drums was tender. The fudu has texture and taste of sticky mash potatoes and the plaintains were decent."
