Stanley's

"We were walking around the fan district enjoying the holiday lights and decorations when we stopped by Stanley's to warm up and get a bite to eat. This was our first visit there since it changed owners as it was The Robin Restaurant for maybe 50 years. We were impressed with the newly decorated upscale look with crystal chandeliers but it still had the homey feel of the old Robin Inn. We ordered a Stanley Philly Cheese Steak sandwich which was large enough to share and it was delicious. I asked our server if I could take a few photos and she said of course and pointed out that there were pool tables on the upper level. I remember the upper level had big family dinners as well as wedding rehearsal dinners up there. We enjoyed our visit and it brought back memories of many good times in the former Robin Inn. We will be back again!"

"I finally visited Stanley's (12/30/23) after following them on IG for a while and yet again another RVA restaurant has surpassed my expectations. I had a beer as I waited to be seated and enjoyed the atmosphere and the friendly staff. I ordered Stanley's Original and at first was underwhelmed by the size of it, until I unwrapped it. It was packed to the brim with steak, cheese, and peppers and seasoned to perfection. I dug in and about half way through realized it was going to be a struggle to finish. I took my time and savored every last morsel. If it is indeed the last new spot I visit for the year, I couldn't have chosen a better place to finally try out!"

"So we had both the traditional chicken cheesesteak and the chicken. The sandwiches were awesome! Super delicious and will definitely be back!! Yum but the service is much to be desired. No number to call in pick up and online ordering doesn’t have the full menu then it took a while once there to place the order in person."

"Going to give it another go to check out the Philly, but so far it's been hit and miss. The roast pork and broccoli rabe was good, but the roasted eggplant was relatively plain and the chicken cutlet was a bit of a disappointment. I absolutely loved the first few bites of the cutlet with the dill heavy slaw it had on it, but the sandwich was heavily loaded with hot mustard where all you could taste after those first bites was basically horseradish. Definitely will be getting it without that next time. There was also some grit still present in the slaw (I'm assuming) as it felt like a large piece of sand was bitten into with the cutlet sandwich that I had to pick out of my teeth. Unfortunate, but it happens. Largely, my dinner partners and I were left comparing it to other restaurants in the area. There is a better roast pork and broccoli rabe at Fat Kids Sandwiches and a better roasted eggplant/vegetable sandwich at Stella's Grocery. But again, still waiting to try a few other items."

"14 years ago, I had the best cheesesteak sandwich at a food truck outside of Lowes. I've been searching for a similar experience since - today I found it at Stanleys. Our server was great and everyone was friendly. A few growing pains after opening, but great food and a fun atmosphere. I'd highly recommend it."
