"Stopped in on a whim since we eat a ton of Ethiopian food but hadn't really experienced any West African cuisine. The space was clean and welcoming, and we were greeted by a very friendly owner who seemed genuinely excited for us to experience her food. She was super helpful in explaining the different options and making suggestions based on our preferences. We loved that the food was vegan by default, but ended up nabbing two chicken dishes since it looked so good and the price difference was negligible. When we asked questions about the oxtail, the owner was even nice enough to let us each try a bite (it was delicious and tender and we immediately regretted not getting it instead). Despite our oxtail woes, we were relieved to find that the chicken dish was also AMAZING. The chicken was moist and perfectly seasoned, and plantains added a lovely sweet balance to the dish. Between our dishes, the jollaf rice and agushie stew were definitely the heroes of the meal. Don't sleep on the shito sauce, which added an extra little kick but brought a whole other layer of flavor that helped to further elevate the rest of the dish. The portions were sizable—we both ended up with leftovers. You can tell that this food is made with real passion and everything we ate tasted like a love letter from Ghana. We'll be back for the oxtail!"
"Delicious food and amazing hospitality! Each time I come Candice goes out of her way to make my visit special - taking time to chat, offer a sample, etc. The salmon is outstanding just like the red red. If you haven't been here, what are you waiting for?"
"Let me start by saying the taste of the food is really really great, I enjoyed every bite. That being said however, I was less than satisfied with the amount of bites I actually had. The portions felt really small especially for the price (see pics, the $15 chicken bowl was maybe 2 house hold spoonfuls of chicken). I came an hour before closing and there was only one woman working at the time processing lots of orders by herself so the wait time on the food was also long for something that should is a build-your-own-bowl and should be ready to serve. I want to believe that I just came on an overwhelming night where they were running low on food. But I did leave feeling like I was still hungry and would needed to eat (more) dinner later. Definitely still go give this place a try, it’s refreshing to have more African food options *in* the city"
"We had so much fun with the staff of Hedzole and loved the food! Each and every part of the meal had amazing flavors and we appreciated learning about the cuisine. Absolutely delicious. It was obvious there was such care and passion put into everything, from a creative and delicious menu, right down to the details and decor on the table. We left feeling full and happy. The oxtail is out of this world, especially when you add their spicy sauce."
"Visited 4.22.23 Visited during soft opening week. Staff was super nice. Candice and her team (family?) were kind and caring. I ordered the salmon, the spinach, cabbage and the red red. The sorrel is delicious and made strong too (no pics of that though sadly). Everything comes in a served in a bowl. Salmon was juicy and moist! Inside is small but a nice family owned business. Good luck guys and I will visit again."
