"I have had Burkholder come out 4 times to fix the same problem with my boiler, and they replace the same part every time (about every 4 months), and tell me that the part is defective and can't find anything else wrong with it. The part simply can't be defective every single time. Now it's out again (16 degrees outside), and they want to put me on a waitlist to get someone to look at it. I'm a contractor myself, and if I replace a roof and it leaks, I know I have to be out there IMMEDIATELY to fix whatever I may have missed. Instead my family is freezing because it's just too much work (that they know they can't charge for again) to figure out what is happening and take care of a customer. If you have a big money job for them, they'll jump right on it, but as for doing the right thing whether it's super profitable or not? Not so much. And that's exactly the metric that needs to be used in evaluating contractors. UPDATE: Since they chose to reply to my review, let's clarify: yes, the last time you came to my house was September, and yes, it SEEMED that everything was resolved, even though the resolution was the exact same thing they had "fixed" twice before, and even tried to charge me several hundred dollars for fixing YOUR mistake. And now it has broken again. Yesterday I had another contractor come out and evaluate it, and he determined that your technician had installed the wrong part: it was a very modern part that doesn't play well with an older boiler. Bad enough that you made the mistake once, but 3 times? He couldn't believe it. He charged me $80 for the visit, and $12 for the part. Everything is working great. You tried to charge me $900 to "fix" it again last time, and this time you couldn't even be bothered to come out. And again, I'm in the service industry too: if someone has a complaint like this, I'm calling THEM, because that's my reputation. You took the easy way out, "here's our number if you still need something". Pathetic."
