Reviews of J-centrel
"I really wanted to move in this place, but during the lease signing process a bunch of red flags popped up and I decided against it. First, I realized they have a problem with transparency. I have a pet and the deposit is $250 (which is pretty nice) and the pet rent is $100 a month (this is why). But I didn’t expect the monthly pet rent too be included in my deposit, so from my perspective there was an additional $300 charge in my deposit that I was unaware of, the charge really wasn’t the problem, it was the fact that it wasn’t explained to me that way. Another thing I noticed is that there are a lot of layers in people that you deal with, I was shown the place by one person, my payments go to another person, I signed the lease with another person and then I would have to wait to get access codes and keys from another person. Also, I gave the date I wanted to move in, then I was asked If I could sign the lease earlier. I agreed to sign the lease on the earlier date because I had the funds but I just wouldn’t have the time, but then I was asked to pay by an even earlier date, which means I would be paying for a place that I wouldn’t have access to for almost a week. There were just too many aspects of the process left out of my control. They also have their own energy management system, so you don’t use PECO but set up something with the building managers, I think. I’m really not sure of that process because I would have had to make my down payment before I could even hear about it, and I figured if it was beneficial, I would have heard about it on the tour. Not to mention most of the reviews for this place are not that great. Furthermore, most of the loft set-ups are more like studios with loft storage areas but they are still pretty nice apartments. As a young professional, I expect a certain level of professionalism from the entities I do business with, especially something like renting a home, but I did not receive that here. I’m not saying it’s a bad place but it’s not for me and I had to share my experience for others like me."
"Simply unprofessional. Terrible communication. Ghetto. Hallways always smell. Overpriced. Something is always broken in the building. Security is a sweetheart but everything else is just not worth it."
"Terrible place to live. Extremely over priced for the apartments . Washing machines never working or the elevators . Put in maintence request they never get around to it and then you share your experience to try to make this place better and they get an attitude. The loft building behind this one that owns the parking lot across the street is much better he’s extremely professional and you get a parking space also rooftop with surround sound and court yard with grills"
"RUN. Wish I could give zero stars. Absolutely not worth the money or dealing with SHIFT management. Terrible management company can’t keep a property manager there’s been like 3 so far. Noisy, neighbors blast music and smoke in their units all hours of the day nothing is done but they will say they will “reach out” Hallways are filthy and outside is the same. Bugs it’s an old building so I kinda get it but they used to offer extermination but since the last property manager left they only reach out when there’s a shooting outside the building or they need you to volunteer for something. Please don’t make my mistake go somewhere else way better apartments in the city you will not feel safe here."
"I had the most pleasant and seamless pre-leasing process from the moment I inquired about a unit. Vee was such an amazing resource! Super friendly and responsive, great communication. Units are BEAUTIFUL, very modern and spacious. And I know other reviews have poorly rated because of the area but you have to keep in mind, this is Philly. So anywhere you go, there are good and bad features. Even Center City these days is going through it... So keep that in mind! Building is a great price point for modern loft feel."
