About Us

Sospeso is a charming Mediterranean-inspired restaurant located at 1344 H Street Northeast in Washington, D.C. Named after the Neapolitan tradition of "suspended coffee," Sospeso embodies generosity and community spirit. The menu features fresh, locally sourced ingredients prepared in simple yet modern artisan dishes that evoke the flavors of the Mediterranean.
The industrial-chic space is bathed in natural light, creating a welcoming atmosphere for guests to enjoy mezze, expertly crafted espresso, and house-made vermouth. Owner Michael Rosato, a third-generation Southern Italian with a passion for food, coffee, and wine, curates a unique wine list featuring obscure varietals and natural wines that delight regulars.
Co-owner Hatice Rosato, a self-proclaimed mompreneur from Turkey, has created a space for friends and neighbors to gather and celebrate special occasions. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Sospeso has adapted by offering a market where guests can purchase locally made products and prepackaged house specialties.

"We came here today for day one of restaurant week. This is truly one of the worst service I’ve ever experienced dinning. We waited for 20 minutes to be seated even though I made a reservation. We were not waited on for another 40 minutes after sitting down - not even water. We then waited another 30 minutes or so for food, which the main dish came before our meze and apps… and only half of the table got their food while the other half continue to wait 20 minutes. I literally had to ask for bread because by this time I was hungry almost going to pass out 2 hours after our reservation time. When my food finally came out the lamb burger was completely cold…. And my dessert baklava (which I assume is pre-made?) just never came and I ended up taking it to go.. The food was ok nothing that impressive or stood out… the lamb Berger was cold and smells burnt; the salad that came with the Burger was tasteless; the chicken dish was good. The fried dough was dense. at the end we got charged the credit card fee even tho we used a debit card. I didn’t even fight it because that probably would take another 30 minutes to get the right check. I understand they’re understaffed today but I honestly would never come back again with any chance of it happening again."
"i really loved this place. the food was tasty and reasonably priced. and drinks were so tasty. will definitely repeat again."
"The ambiance was good facing the road. Place runs on vermouth cocktails. The price of cocktails is high for the value and the quantity. Cauliflower fry is the best dish from what we had. We had lamb pasta and chicken kabobs. Overall good experience. Waiters were great!"
"Very chill spot. Since the place is not that big, you get quality customer service. We ordered hot chocolates, ice coffees and baklavas…. And they were all rest good. This place definitely has their own twist. They also have a full menu to include happy hour."
"Not to familiar with the Area, but went after Van gough Experience. This was one of those hidden gems! Wonderful staff and chef brought food out himself! High quality food and service! If you’re looking for an authentic Mediterranean experience, go here! Loved it!"
