About the Business
Free Store Wilkinsburg is a charitable institution located at 619 Penn Avenue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Our store is open on Saturdays from 10:00am to 2:00pm, with no entry allowed after 1:45pm. Additionally, we are open on Tuesdays from 9:30am to 11:30am and Wednesdays from 10:00am to 1:00pm. Please note that we do not accept donations during shopping hours.
We are always looking for volunteers to help us in our mission, so if you are interested in contributing, please reach out to us. We greatly appreciate the generosity of our donors, but we kindly ask that all donations adhere to our guidelines. This includes items that are new or gently used, clean, in-season, and relatively current in style.
We accept a variety of items, including clothing (up to 3 large bags per visit), books (cookbooks, DIY, craft, nonfiction, fiction), and more. However, we do not accept certain items such as paperback romantic novels, magazines, or specialty labeled company apparel or gear.
Please do not leave donations outside when the store is closed, as they will be discarded immediately. If you are unable to make it during our regular donation hours, please send us a message. Thank you for your support and understanding.

"Drove an hour. Didn't know they weren't open for public when it says on Google it is. And the lady was very rude to us. Hurry up and pushed us out of there saying she would get into trouble us being there."
"The store is currently only open on Saturdays. Remember you may not come every week, eow to be fair. They have had some people take advantage and even steal from here in the past. Currently every other week, five items and a 15 min time limit are the constraints. Some items don't count, such as measuring spoons or books. Others may count as more than one. Another thing to remember is that women may not get men's clothing and the reverse. This is to help men actually get clothing that they may need. However as men often will or can not shop for themselves, it may cause a difficulty. But I think that if there is a problem and the store was contacted early in the week they might be able to accommodate the situation. Yes, I do know some women cannot or will not shop for themselves. Also, I do not know the store's policy regarding transgender or cross dressing individuals. If you think a difficulty may occur, I would check ahead of time, because you only have 15min."
"I was in there for less than 20 seconds and some old miserable lady with a stiff swoop in her nasty smelling hair put her hand in my face and told me to "stop right there" like she was a cop. Then told me that I'm not allowed in because it was donation day. I did not know that because I've never been there. But she gave me a little too much attitude for me just opening the door. Then all the other miserable old ladies in the back just watched and giggled."
"I shopped here for myself and I got things from the mens section and I was told I can’t get because I am not a man which is not reasonable because I wear mens clothing, I was actually wearing mens clothing when I went in and she told me the rules didn’t apply and I couldn’t get. I said they’re unisex and I said how do you know I’m not a man? Not ever coming back horrible experience not worth it."
"Lovely people accepting donations of clothing. A wonderful source for the community. Check drop off times & days on their website first. Limited times as they need more volunteers. Don't throw out good stuff. Donate, so others can use it!"
