"They don't care about the kids education. My kids was left out of school for a month in half"
"This is a terrible place for students. I just switched from my virtual classes through PHS to the other virtual program that is offered by the district because of how badly I was being mistreated by my teachers and other staff members. First and foremost, I am VERY upset at the way that teachers and staff have been acting towards me since the very beginning of virtual lessons. I was marked as absent for 8 days of virtual classes simply because my camera was not on during the live meeting. I actively participated and handed in all of my work on time, but I personally felt very uncomfortable being told to have my camera on because 1) I am not comfortable being recorded, and all lessons are recorded from start to finish; 2) I am very uncomfortable having my home being visible to many strangers, as well as having the other people in my household being recorded when they were in camera’s view. There is no room in my house that is free of distractions or other activity. The fact that teachers and staff expect students to have quiet and distraction-free environments is absolutely absurd; 3) There is no reason to mark students absent for refusing to turn their camera on if they are participating in the lesson and completing their work on time. If cheating is the problem, teachers need to find a better excuse, because students can easily open new tabs on their computers while still being visible on camera, prop their phone or other device on their computers and use it to look at answers, or even sit their phone or another device in their lap. The fact that teachers and staff REPEATEDLY came after me (so much as to send a truancy officer TO MY HOUSE) for “not being present in class” despite me not only asking and answering questions and getting my work completed and handed in on time, is ridiculous. Teachers should be going after students who have bad grades, don’t do their work, don’t participate in any classes, etc. NOT THE STUDENTS WHO HAVE GOOD GRADES, DO THEIR WORK AND PARTICIPATE. There is no collective way that teachers take attendance before classes. They all have different methods, which is not only confusing, but also unfair and very inconvenient. Some ask a question and base their attendance of off who answers, some say names and students respond “here,” some just look at the student’s pictures and mark who is present that way. There needs to be a universal method of taking attendance so that all teachers are on the same page and students know what to expect when logging into their classes every morning. Additionally, my mom has has several phone calls with several staff members and each one has been rude and nasty and did not listen to anything that my mom had to say, and instead chose to make excuses for their teachers and blame me (and other students) repeatedly. I understand that the change from in-person to virtual has been hard on everyone, but it’s been months since all of this officially began, and nothing has improved at all. Teachers are abusing their power and are also clueless of how to do their jobs, not only lacking common sense, comprehension, and understanding of students’ home lives and personal situations, but many are also unaware of how to work the technology and programs that are necessary to use during virtual classes. If teachers want assignments to be handed in at a certain time, make the time clear and precise instead of just saying “11:59pm.” If you want it due at 10:30am on Tuesday, make it due then, don’t make it due at the end of the week and mark it late because I didn’t hand it in seconds after it was assigned. The amount of work that we receive is ridiculous and overwhelming and students are pinned with so many unreasonable expectations that we are punished unfairly for not meeting. I am very disappointed in Pottstown School District. My senior year was ruined from the start because of the pandemic and other personal issues in my life, and this just puts the icing on the cake."
