Reviews of North Spring Behavioral Healthcare
"without making this post into an essay, i need for anyone who is considering sending their child here to seriously reconsider. i was admitted to the residential for 10 months after being told i would be there for 30-60 days for assessment and diagnosis. the 10 months i spent in this facility have forever changed everything about me. the nightmares i have consistently, the memories that hit me in the middle of the day of how horrendous the staff treat the patients, the smells, the lies that they use to get you to believe that they are being humane. i went in to northspring at 14 and the girl who was admitted then has never come back, and probably never will. to anyone else who has been here and dealt with the utter lack of empathy and amount of pure manipulation, i hope you heal. i hope that you can see that what happened to you there isn’t your fault and that there are people in the world who will help you."
"My 7 year old went in for a week. All they did is put him on 3 different meds that basically made him a zombie. No one would return my calls to give me an actual update on how my son is doing. Then they discharged him and I wasn't even able to get all his meds from the pharmacy because of a pre authorization issue. I kept calling and they never got back to me. Guess they don't care once about your child once the second they leave. I wish I didn't send my child there. I thought they were going to really evaluate him and help me understand how I can help him. There was hardly any communication with me. Please find a better place to send your child."
"Just overall, being in this place was the worst thing to happen to me. I absolutely do not recommend or even suggest going or sending your child to this place. To any other child who's been to this hospital and has had a bad experience, I'm really sorry you guys had to go through it all. You don't deserve any of what happened in there and deserved better. Whatever you're going through, I hope you'll make it, get better, and get all the love and support you deserve. Please remember that your feelings are valid, it's just unfortunate that the staff weren't the right people to "give" that support. To any parent or guardian who sent their child here, and thought their child had a bad experience, I'm also very sorry for you and your child. Your child deserved better, and so do you. Everyone's feelings are valid and understandable. Even though I have very big doubts of this happening, I hope this place at least improves and has a far more better staff and certain things. Such as the beds and the water temperature (it was boiling hot, we had to shower in that...). I plan on donating some things to this place for the kids, to make their experience, at least, a little more better. I wish you parents and kids all the best, and please stay safe."
"Never have we ever noticed a positive difference in my granddaughter as we have through North Spring behavior. I am thankful to the Doctors and staff for all the hard work , love, and care that they put in for her to develop a healthy mind set. I give a special thanks to her Therapist Mister Jackson. You have been amazing ! You know your stuff and you applied it very well and professionally. I thank you so much . Even though our positive walk has just begun, you have helped us begin that journey. I am most pleased thank you all very very much."
"This was one of the most traumatizing experiences in my entire life. Being here felt like I had lost all of my agency as a person; nobody took me seriously or listened to anything I said. There was so much screaming and multiple holds a day. Almost everyone on the staff didn’t seem to realize the vulnerable state we were all in, and yelled constantly. When I was first admitted, I had to wear clothes provided by NS and wasn’t allowed to have any of my personal items. My mom brought clothes for me that were confiscated and locked away and I wasn’t allowed to have anything. She brought me D&D dice for me to mess with, and I never got them back even after I left. We weren’t allowed to go outside if anyone misbehaved, and the kids who did follow the rules were punished because of the kids who didn’t. We had to wake up and get ready every morning so we could be sorted into different rooms. The staff would keep track of people I would be friendly with and separate us because “it isn’t a place to make friends” and after having problems with one kid for three days and telling the staff every time he did something to me, they did nothing about it because they didn’t want him to feel unwelcome, ignoring the fact that he had been harassing me ever since he got there. Once we were all sent to the day rooms, we were locked out of our rooms for the rest of the day until showers. If I left something in the room, I wasn’t allowed to get it because the staff would refuse to unlock the doors. After taking medicine or eating a meal, you were “discouraged” from using the restroom, and if you did, a staff member would have to hold the door and watch. None of those adults should ever be around kids. Any time there was a problem, the staff would conveniently not notice. Those were the worst 10 days of my entire life, and I would have been there longer if I didn’t lie to them every day so they would let me leave. About a day or so in, I wanted to go home because everything in this environment was unwelcoming and abusive, but because they made my dad and I sign the papers, I was legally unable to leave until they deemed it was okay. Every single concern I brought up to the therapists and psychiatrists was minimized and ignored. One doctor told me I had bipolar but he didn’t want to officially diagnose me or change my medications because it would be too difficult. There was no privacy. I absolutely loathe everything about this place."
