"My first time visiting and I will be back. A good selection of freshwater fish in a variety of sizes. I got two rope fish and a tank decoration. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable. One drawback is that the prices marked on the tanks were difficult for me to read."
"I have tried this place out but no longer. On two occasions I spent money on freshwater fish only to have several die on me within a few days. Tried bringing them back as they have a 7-day return policy only to have them not honor the policy. Always some question with the water quality or some other nonsense. Been keeping planted tanks for over a decade and I never had any issues with fish purchased from House of Tropicals in Glen Burnie. I am convinced Rick's does a poor job with its fish inventory and it only takes one visit to their fish area to see why. Such a mess is an understatement. I am done dealing with Ricks."
"Wonderful old school pet store, good employees. The front of the store could be a little more organized. Good variety of fish, also have reptiles, birds, and small animals. The best thing is fish though. Supplies and toys marked pretty high. Edit- one less star for decency. Some individuals feel the need to bash and start with other pet stores. One of which is my favorite. Not cool. Just because a store near you closes doesn't mean your life will be better. In fact. The more 3rd party stores that close, the laws will close in on you because theres less to focus on. Less places for families to visit and be amazed."
"In my opinion, the owner should try to improve on courtesy of employees. One guy was very nice to me. (Has braces). The second young man asked if I needed help. I had a few questions. He wouldn’t walk to me. I said “why is the figure 8 pea puffer rolling?”. He gave me a look like I was crazy. I said is that something these fish do? I wanted two for a 55 tank. I did not tell him that I had an open tank. I just said I have dwarf pea puffer. They couldn’t go with them. Had he walked over to me he could have seen the two fish barrel rolling. Instead he acted like I was an idiot. BTW, don’t buy anything in that particular tank. It has to have bad bacteria built up in there. The 2 puffer have a bacterial infection causing them to barrel roll. Guess he had no clue. So I just played along and said I wanted to put it with EBA. He said you can’t. He Tried to walk away. Anyway, I said these EBA’s, are they all the same price even though you have fry EBA and some a little larger. So that was a dumb question too I guess. Two EBA for that price at that size is crazy. The large Frontosa should not be that price either. They are getting beat up by the aggressive fish he has them with. Also, put a lower price on the Indian Ring Neck. She is stressed out. And she has destroyed every single tail feather. She is not supposed to be acting that way. If my female IRN acted that way, I would do what is necessary to provide her a safe space. That IRN is behind glass, and no interaction. Put her somewhere so she can be bonded with someone, talk to her, etc. she is only going to end up a disturbed bird when she finds a home. If you knew the personality of IRN you would interact her with humans now. Being hand fed is not going to make her a nice bird. I hate to be picky, but the guy was so rude, I walked out. I was going to buy a few Geo and the Nimbochromis, but that young man led me to believe he didn’t want to be bothered. Instead of making people look stupid, try educating customers and seeing if they do actually have the proper containment for fish instead of making them look stupid and walking away."
"80 dollars on fish just to have 6 die within 48 hours. I took them back once and they acted like I was running a scam that I didn’t get them there or were returning older fish even though it was only 24 hours and my water tested fine. The manager tried to tell me I had fish eating them and I should check my tank for other fish even though I’ve had a tank for 14 years so I’m pretty sure I know what is in there. I’ve had the ones pictured for 6 hours and they’re dead already. They took my receipt because you’re only allowed to bring them back once even though they guarantee 7 days on their fish… way too expensive for this to happen."
