"SailTime/PowerTime Annapolis (“PT”) is an A++++ organization. The five-star Google rating does not really do them justice. My family was a PT member during the 2022 boating season, and had the pleasure of sharing a brand-new NC 1095 Jeanneau power boat (it actually had a new boat smell) with several other members. Prior to joining PT, I had been a member of other boat sharing clubs in the Baltimore City area, where we live. The contrast in the quality of boats, overall organization of the club, quality of membership, training of members for use of the boats, ease and fairness of scheduling, quality of franchise ownership, maintenance of the boats etc. was night and day. PT must have a great hiring/screening process, because all of their employees were extremely pleasant, enthusiastic, and helpful. Likewise, in contrast to some boat sharing clubs, this PT franchise takes a common-sense approach to weather-related restrictions. At my prior Baltimore boat clubs, the club owners would severely restrict the use of even the larger boats whenever there was small craft advisory (which seemed to be almost one-half the time), and would recall the boats to port whenever lightning was reported in the area (which is pretty frequent during Baltimore summers). Indeed, the employees at the prior Baltimore club seemed to use the weather pretextually to avoid working (which certainly does not make a member/host look good with his guests). In contrast, the Annapolis PT franchise applied a much more measured and common-sense approach to any weather-related restrictions. From May to October, we never even had one of our many outings cancelled or restricted by weather. I do believe that the club did have to place a weather-related restriction at least once during the season (when it was blowing a gale), but luckily, we did not have an outing scheduled that day. Although I am not fastidious enough to do the math, I suspect that we ended up paying less per actual quality boating hour with PT, even though it appeared considerably more expensive on paper than my most recent Baltimore boat club. Moreover, the PT owners Todd and Tammy Hess are intelligent, honest, committed, pleasant, and extremely competent. After my wife was injured (casting question on her ability to serve safely as crew) following the automatic renewal period for the 2023 season, the Hesses very graciously permitted us to exit the club for the season. Although our untimely withdrawal from the club was undoubtedly very inconvenient for them, the Hesses never once brought up their own inconvenience or even hinted at enforcing their legal rights, but instead expressed only sympathy and compassion for my wife’s injury. The Hesses’ gentle and compassionate handling of that situation speaks volumes about their character, as well as the Annapolis franchise. Additionally, the fleet of boats at the Annapolis franchise are relatively new, large, and truly impressive. Although all boats inevitably develop some form of mechanical difficulties, Silas, the employee who oversees, among other things, the fleet maintenance at the Annapolis franchise, is extremely knowledgeable, committed, hard-working, and competent. The boats were generally spotless and fully operational. In sharp contrast, the best boat at our prior Baltimore boat sharing club developed an engine problem early in the season, and was still never fully addressed by the following boating season. Although PT may appear to be a bit more expensive than some competing boat clubs, they are worth every penny! In short, even if the PT is a bit more expensive (or further away), it might well prove penny wise and dollar foolish to join a less expensive (or geographically closer) club. Having considerable experience with other boat-sharing outfits, I cannot rate PT highly enough! David Scott, Baltimore Md."
"Capt Randy was an amazing instructor! I was incredibly nervous going into the first sailing course but he made us all confident and comfortable making the experience a really fun challenge! Tammy and the office staff were also super nice and helpful- thank you for everything, we look forward to our next classes!"
"Every part of the experience was great - booking, parking, the boat, the instructor. Going into this I was most nervous about docking in tight quarters - the instruction was on point and the marina is twisty enough to get good practice. I got the confidence I needed to skipper this kind of boat."
"We're new members of PowerTime Annapolis and just completed our training with Captain Ben on the Jeanneau 1095. He was a great help in teaching us the skills needed to safely navigate the boat in the Annapolis area and the Chesapeake Bay. The management team, Todd, Tammy & Silas, have been fantastic and very helpful in getting us worked into the schedule and made to feel a welcome addition to the club."
"Highly recommended! I was in it for personal development and exploring a new hobby. I enrolled in the ASA101 course in early June and came out to do the in-person training in early August. SailTime sent me the ASA textbook/manual on sailing for beginners, which was super informative and straightforward in terms of conveying everything one should know at this stage, from parts of the boat to basic maneuvers and drills along with navigation rules. I felt I was adequately prepared for the in-person portion of the course. Yvonne was our instructor and was amazing. First of all, I enjoyed having a small class of three—small enough for you to focus on your skill building but also to nurture the spirit of teamwork that is essential to sailing. Yvonne was thorough in her guidance on applying our new-found knowledge to our time on the water, very knowledgeable, and patient. Thank you, SailTime, for this excellent experience! I look forward to continuing my sailing studies with you in the near future!"
