Bratton Theater
About the Business
Located at 35 Pratt Avenue in Chautauqua, New York, the Bratton Theater is home to the Chautauqua Theater Company (CTC). CTC is dedicated to producing high-quality live theater during a vibrant nine-week summer season. They are committed to developing new work, nurturing the next generation of theater artists, and presenting world premieres as well as modern and contemporary plays. The institution also brings fresh perspectives to the classical canon.
In celebration of Chautauqua's sesquicentennial, CTC's 2024 season will showcase a diverse range of productions, including three New Play Workshops and three mainstage productions. Among the mainstage productions are Noah Haidle's "Birthday Candles," Lynn Nottage's "Fabulation, or The Re-Education of Undine," and Kate Hamill's "The Light and The Dark (the life and times of Artemisia Gentileschi)," a world premiere directed by Producing Artistic Director Jade King Carroll.
The world premiere of Kate Hamill's "The Light and The Dark" will take place during the final two weeks of the nine-week Summer Assembly, from June 22 to August 25, 2024. The institution also offers Design Fellowship opportunities, with applications accepted on a rolling basis, though applicants are encouraged to apply by March 1.
Visitors can save their favorite productions by filling out a form on the website and will receive a link to their favorites list via email. The website allows users to toggle between the current season, whether it be Summer or Fall/Winter/Spring, to access relevant content.

Reviews
"Always cold. Bring a sweater. Fabulous performance of Canibus Passover."
"Small, you might say, experimental theatre. Such a treat. One production for this summer was "PRIDE AND PREJUDICE'."
"The Bratton is a major component of the Chautauqua experience."
"Went to see the play "Animals out of Paper" and it was just wonderful. (I happen to own a theatre and am usually pretty difficult to impress). The theatre itself is so neat to look at. The acting was top notch. Each actor did an amazing job portraying their characters both emotionally and physically. The set was just enough to set the mood and not be a distraction from the story. It was great to see a diverse cast.... if only there could have been more diversity among audience members."
"Exciting combination of new and old plays, plus plays still in workshop phase. It is thrilling to see one of those go on to NYC/Broadway when you saw it here first. The casts are a mix of advanced MFA students and professional actors. Great Artistic Director."
