"Tremendous talent can be seen here. Nice quaint reception space. Very relaxed environment. Warm welcoming and friendly staff. The microphone sound system or acoustics is what I hope is improved upon."
"This place needs an upgrade in its HVAC system, new chairs, and accessible for those who are disabled. I attended a concert here a few weeks ago that should've been rescheduled because the air conditioner was inoperable."
"Micro-playhouse in a back street of Anacostia. The resident company, Theater Alliance, is, to judge from their recent production of Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye, well- worth going to see. Anacostia has a rep for being a little... rough, is that the word? But there were lots of white folks there when we went who seemed perfectly at ease."
"Experience Morrison’s ‘Eye’ Blue eyes are pretty. But are they dangerous? Are they part of an arsenal of physical attributes weaponized to keep poor, Black people feeling inferior? You’ve got until June 25, 2023, to explore these questions in The Bluest Eye, a stage adaptation of the acclaimed Toni Morrison novel. Overall, the words, acting, lighting, and set deliver an entertaining (and sometimes squirm-inducing) experience at the Anacostia Playhouse, 2020 Shannon Place, SE, Washington, DC. The heartbreak is constant as 11-year-old Pecola and her friends, their parents, and the town struggle with the meaning and meanness imbued by skin color. As U.S. and world citizens, we’re still trying to figure it out."
"I loved the experience...I recently went to a production called "Rainbow Fish" and I was truly impressed by how well put together it was, and the kids did excellent!!! (Also the set was gorgeous)"
