"Attended a New Year's Eve party in the ballroom upstairs. Awesome venue for such an event. Wonderful view on the broad Street. Decorated perfectly. Great stage for bands. Truly an elegant nostalgia feel."
"The museum is full of carefully placed exhibits, which tells the full story of this lovely little town hidden in the gorge. Our tour guide was truly a gem herself. She answered all our questions & had a few interesting stories to share."
"My wife and I were here on a rainy weekday so the place was empty. The curator spent a lot of time with us. Told us all about Jim Thorp (Mauch Chunk) history and more. Museum is filled with interesting items and easy to do a self guided tour."
"A truly enjoyable way to learn the history of the town Mauch Chunk/ Jim Thorpe. The kind older gentleman who was running the museum was funny, insightful and engaging. Since it was a slow day he gave us a bit more in-depth explanations of the history of coal, the flood, and the origins of the name change. There's a lot more, but it's best to see in person. All the items were lovingly displayed and easy to see. The place radiated a feeling of genuine enjoyment for the subject matter. It was very pleasant to watch someone so knowledgeable about a subject explain so many topics. We even took some pictures to ghost hunt, but no luck. If you are looking for a great place to learn about the Town of Jim Thorpe, this is the place to go!"
"The museum hosts lots of historic materials about the town, good for museum lovers and history fans. We arrived only half an hour before the closure, so got 25% off on ticket. The museum is run by a couple and the explanations by the lady owner were great. The coal story is definitely a must-hear one, I myself actually saw this type of coal while hiking near Jim Thorpe. Come to discover this hidden gem in the busy Jim Thorpe town. Tour highly recommended, as the materials were not very self-explanatory, you will get to learn a lot more out by talking to the staffs there. Remember to check out why it is called "America's little Switzerland""
