University of Vermont Jericho Research Forest and Conservation Center
About the Business
The University of Vermont Jericho Research Forest and Conservation Center, located in Jericho, Vermont, is a 496-acre research forest owned by UVM's Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources. The forest is divided into a northern portion, acquired in 1941, and a southern portion known as the Roger's Tract, donated in 1999. The northern portion was once farmed and later planted with a variety of conifer species for research purposes. The Roger's Tract features diverse terrain with wetlands, streams, and native hardwood forests.
The Jericho Research Forest is used for teaching, research, internships, and student projects in forestry and environmental sciences. Current research focuses on forest development, wildlife habitats, and climate change impacts. The Forrest E. Orr Conservation Center, built in 2008, serves as a classroom space for learning about sustainable forestry practices. Hunters with proper licenses are allowed during the Vermont hunting season.
Visitors can access the forest via Tarbox Road and are encouraged to download a trail map for navigation. The forest offers unique opportunities to study and enjoy Vermont's natural environment.
