"A truly Awful place, well, neighborhood is nice, the office management, Donna, Clayton, and Becky, are snakes, they will lie to you, they will take their frustration out on you, the tenant. Do not ask for repairs or considerations for anything, they will repair with bandaids, and they will treat you awful for complaining about the awful repairs, refusal to repair, or non notice of work being done( they will knock and walk right in) Donna is the property manager, she hides, if u have a complaint about how the leasing manager or the maintenance manager is, she will hide, and send them to call u...... They will actively make ur life harder if u try to hold them accountable for keeping ur place proper. Peter is the maintenance tech, and he is the only saving grace here. We have been her almost 3years. Also, there have been police here almost weekly for a while now. More unsavory tenants moving in, carefree of considerations for their neighbors, loud, rude, speeding like crazy, police visits often. My 2 building neighbors have the police over at least once a week.... The building have mold in the attics, for sure. We deal with it regularly. Per the mouth of the maintenance manager " all I care, I'd that u have a roof and walls.....mold, bugs, water, broken toilet for months, I don't care" Rebecca-she may seems nice, but she's a snake."
"Our family of three relocated from NY to Maine on New Years Day, 2020. Because I was starting a new job, we only had a few weeks to pack up and move. The staff at Coach Lantern was a great help with our relocation. We had originally inquired about a different Portland Chestnut location, but when we told the staff we have a child, we were advised to consider the Coach Lantern community in Scarborough instead - and I am so glad we did. We rented a “Breakwater” unit, which I believe is one of the larger units in the community. It was renovated right before we moved in so we had fresh paint, new hard flooring downstairs and new carpeting upstairs. Pretty much everything is shades of grey and white. The kitchen is small, but manageable. We were able to fit our dining table, chairs and China hutch in the dining area no problem. The master bedroom is HUGE, and the second bedroom is also spacious enough for a full size bed, large dresser, night table and approximately one million toys (lol). The closets in both bedrooms are very good size. We opted to buy our washer/dryer rather than rent. We rented a storage unit through Coach Lantern, which is located right around the corner at the other Scarborough location. My husband went to the fitness center multiple times a week and had no complaints. Our plan was to buy a house ~6months after moving to Maine. Coach Lantern was great with accommodating our request for a 6 month lease, with the option of renting month to month thereafter. Essentially, our 6 month lease took us from January-June, and then we payed per month (with a reasonable up charge) for July, August, September, and October. We are moving at the end of this month (October) into a home that we are purchasing. We received the “move-out charges” and weren’t really surprised. When moving out, you are responsible for cleaning the apartment, having carpets cleaned, etc. We never had any issues with neighbors and we found the community to be pretty respect all around. Our six year old made friends with the kids in the community and I felt comfortable letting her out to play while keeping an eye from our door/windows. She spent a lot of time playing on the playground which was conveniently located right by our unit. I would definitely recommend Coach Lantern if you have kids, as there are a ton of kids in the neighborhood, the school district is excellent.. etc. Coach Lantern is located in a very desirable neighborhood in Scarborough. While staying at Coach Lantern you have direct access to the Eastern Trail, you are very close to ocean beaches (Scarborough Beach, Ferry Beach, Higgins Beach), and you are 10 minutes outside Portland. My commute to the parking garage for Maine Medical Center employees on St. John Street is exactly 12 minutes. It’s all about perspective. Are the the Coach Lantern apartments the most beautiful apartments I’ve ever seen? No- but they served a purpose for our family. Our unit was clean and comfortable, the staff was easy to deal with, the location is great."
"I was really sad to see how dirty the park was for the kids so I picked up the park. The play set was broken and their was rusty nails sticking out of a board that was part of the playset.. The apartments are a bit on the small side. However if their is three of you it maybe just right for you. I'm thankful we don't just let the kids go to the park on their own. Cause this park isn't safe. The other play set in this complex was also broken."
"I’m in the process of moving out because this place is so over priced for the leasing company to do nothing. They got two guys to paint all the buildings and we got voicemails from the leasing manager saying she was personally disgusting with us and how we were the sole purpose on why the guys couldn’t continue painting. I went outside and I asked the guys if that were true so I can apologize and they said that they weren’t even on that side of the building. But when I first moved in, there was old cigarette smell and a leak dinning room area from the bathroom. The maintenance guys came for 5 mins and determined that nothing was wrong. Parts of the ceiling have fallen off. They came to replace the water heater (cause it completely crashed) and tore up the carpet revealing mold. And I’m the process of moving out, in my own closet there is a whole corner of black mold. And they want us to pay for washing the carpets and completely cleaning the place. Do not move here, trust me it’s not worth the price."
"If there was an option to give a negative number, I would have gladly given it. First off they are grossly overpriced. $1600 a month with NOTHING included. Yes, I could have priced around but I was in a pinch at the time. The first experience within the first week was to find out there were fleas. I do not own any pets, so they were not from myself. Called up management and they were kind enough to provide us with flea bombs. Luckily it did fix the issue. A few weeks later, the pipes started to back up and sewage started to spew out from the pipe the washer drains into. The maintenance guy came over and snaked our drain whilst getting black crud all over the cabinets. After, he did not even clean it up. Then winter came and other residents just let their dog %@#$ all over the driveway and walkways. They put notices out via email but nothing changed. Then to top it off, once we found a house and signed a paper saying we were opting out early of our lease (whilst paying a month of rent of us not even being there) they leased it out to someone else without even calling to tell us. Our official last day was July 4th but today May 25th, I find out we have to pay someone to clean the rugs and be out by June 1st. Luckily we called in to see what was going on with the early lease opt out or we wouldn't even have known. BEWARE of this place if you have any will to live here. I would suggest to shop around and ONLY live here if it is a last resort."
