"I like grounded, well maintained old, historical, working class buildings! Also, located in heart of downtown Portland, known as Portland's first "highrise"! Understand, folks can become members for $50, with special organization rates! Only thing missing is a common kitchen."
"Alot of history here. It's an older building with somewhat funky floor plans, retrofitted bathrooms, etc. As an event venue, I was disappointed how confusing it was to find where my function was being held. Also very disappointed with the temperature; the space was kept at 64 degrees on a cold Maine day. I wore my coat the entire time. This took alot away from my experience."
"The building is a hidden gem with an extraordinary 200+ year history connected to the tradition of craftsmanship in Portland and has since reinvented itself a vibrant hub of community events, art, education, and performance."
"I liked my first visit so much that I paid for a membership pretty much the next day. I hadn't been in the building before, and the door was open for November's first Friday. The library was open for a talk with a Maine author who writes mysteries, and as I walked to the ballroom on the next floor, I walked in a Naked Shakespeare production by Acorn. It feels like Mechanics Hall has a unique history and community outreach."
"Community center with various interesting classes and gatherings, in a lovely older building with great spaces of differing sizes. Very well equipped with restrooms, working elevator, and used book exchange."
