Reviews
"Dined at Me Lon Togo two days ago—not for the first time, the food is so great I keep going back—but this experience was even better because for the first time, I managed to be there when the live music was happening. Owner, chef and waiter, Jordan Benissan, is also a drummer who teaches African drumming at Colby College. It's worth going there just to hear him, but if you like to try new things with deep, unique, and spicy flavor combinations, you're bound to enjoy Me Lon Togo just for the food. Apparently the TV show, Chronicle, agrees, since a crew from Boston showed up that same night to record Jordan's story. Jordan was joined that night by talented guitarist and singer, Jim Gibson. Some of the traditional Togo dishes are vegetarian, a boon for me, not having to make a special request. I don't think there's another restaurant in the state offering a menu based on the cuisine of Togo, and the $40 prix fixe menu with choices for appetizers and entrees, is a bargain."
"I really don't like when I can't give outstanding reviews for restaurants I want desperately to love. Unfortunately, I was disappointed for a number of reasons. First, only one of the three appetizers and only three of the main dishes were available. I wish that when I called to make a reservation there had been noticed given that it would be a limited menu. Then, I never actually saw the bill and so I'm not really quite sure how I was charged. Some of that's on me but I felt bad to see the total and then to demand to understand how it was itemized. Next, we were freezing. And finally, it wasn't all that clean. All that said, what we ate tasted good. I don't think that for what was offered on the menu, it was worth $40. And I know that probably sounds cheap, but I think that's largely due to the choices we had on the menu. We weren't able to order what we were really looking forward to eating. I really liked the owner/operator. He was very sweet and, as I understand, he is a one-man show. I think that having somebody help him could probably help with some of the issues with bathroom and kitchen cleanliness."
"At the suggestion of my friend, we decided to try Me Lon Togo out since we both had never had African cuisine. I am so glad she suggested it! The food had such unique and delicious flavors. The night we went was not crowded (even though the food should certainly warrant it). I know I will be back with others. The chef was very nice and friendly. Overall it was a wonderful experience."
"My husband and I came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and the whole experience was beautiful! Jordan is an incredible chef, and the food tasted amazing. The dining area is cozy and we felt right at home. We will absolutely be back!"
"The restaurant was very cozy! The owner has a cool story (on his site). Even though it got busy, we felt like everything came out at a good pace (especially because we got pretty full). The meal took around 1.5-2 hours. The food was delicious, and I think getting a 4 course meal for $40 is a great deal. We will come back for sure if we are in the area."
