About the Business
The Caroline Tuthill Preserve is a beautiful 150-acre park located in Edgartown, Massachusetts. It features oak and pitch pine forests, wetlands, salt marshes, and open meadows. Generously donated to the Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation by the Tuthill family, this preserve is the largest gift of land the foundation has ever received.
Visitors are welcome to explore the Garrett Family Trail, a self-guided nature walk that offers stunning views of Sengekontacket Pond. For more adventurous visitors, the purple trail offers mountain biking opportunities with challenging terrain and elevation changes. Other trails on the property connect to the Beach Road bicycle path.
Birdwatchers will delight in spotting a variety of bird species, while nature enthusiasts may also encounter the beautiful lady’s slippers in the spring. The preserve's landscape was shaped by the Cape Cod lobe of the Late Wisconsin glacier, resulting in unique features such as high knobs and kettleholes.
To visit the Caroline Tuthill Preserve, simply follow the Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road and look for the trailhead on either side of the road. This peaceful sanctuary is a perfect destination for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

Reviews
"Really Enjoyed the Mountain bike (purple path) lots of harepin turns, elevation change, as far as a professional goes this is an easy course. on a fat tire folding ebike not setup for precision handling it included a few falls. luckily the Forrest ground is forgiving."
"Let yourself get lost. Then use your phone locator to get back. Great place for dogs to run around. Meadowlands, scrub oak, tidal pond shoreline. Very photoworthy views. Good spot for a geocache. But whatever you do, don't take the Serpentine Trail. It's the worst trail I've ever walked. I mean that."
"A wonderful and easily accessible place for a walk. Although it is located on a main street, a few paces in and you are transported to a lush forest that takes you all the way to Sengekontacket Pond. Walk along the pond, it sit and look across to State Beach."
"Beautiful new trails, difficult to find parking but when you do, it's worth it!"
