"This is a scenic and worthwhile hike. I would recommend starting at the trailhead in the lower campground area, by the lake. The first portion runs along the shore and is particularly nice, with some impressively large trees as well as water views. The middle part has a steep, somewhat difficult but short ascent, and then you are more or less at the top of a level ridge for the rest of the hike. This portion follows what seems to be an ancient cart path, flanked by stone walls. The maturing secondary growth forest here supports many songbirds, and once you get 10 minutes away from the mass pike it is quiet and peaceful. At the end is a gradual descent back down to the campground. I wouldn't call this a destination hike, but it is a pleasant feature worth checking out if you are already at the park."
