About the Business
The Shiatsu School of Vermont and Shiatsu Clinic, located at 441 West River Road in Brattleboro, Vermont, offers a unique approach to healing and relaxation through the practice of Shiatsu therapy. Shiatsu is a form of bodywork that works on multiple levels of the body, including muscles, internal organs, emotions, and spiritual integration. Sessions are done fully clothed on a mat on the floor or a massage table, using techniques such as joint rotations, stretches, and pressure points.
Shiatsu is non-invasive and can help relieve stress, anxiety, and a variety of chronic conditions such as headaches, digestive issues, and musculoskeletal pain. The practice combines the nurturing aspects of massage with the holistic balancing of acupuncture, making it a popular choice for those seeking alternative forms of healing.
In addition to offering Shiatsu therapy, the institution also serves as a training ground for Massage Therapists looking to expand their knowledge of Oriental Medicine. The school emphasizes the interconnectedness of the body, mind, and spirit, viewing the human body as an ecosystem within a larger ecosystem. By working with the meridian lines and points, Shiatsu helps the body become more self-aware and better utilize its resources for healing and balance.

"My experience here has provided the opportunity to recalibrate body and mind. I am very appreciative to everyone that I've met and worked with."
"I did not write this until 3 months later as I have been seeing Sheyna and was waiting for her to return from training. The new space is beautiful. The old space was as well, but in the midst of the city. The new space is by the water, facing a mountain and allows me to connect into its beauty. As for treatment, I have thoroughly appreciated this Sheyna's easeful and grounded energy which is a rare jewel. She listens and keeps talking to a minimum and responds simply to whatever questions I might have. Her hands are mindful, respectful, healing, and she is open to making adjustments rather than some therapists who force the body to do what it is not yet ready to do. These are all marks of a master therapist who treats in the moment, unhurried, and through their heart. It allows me to be at ease, to feel into my body, and to connect to its healing wisdom."
"I first went went in for a Shiatsu massage mostly out of curiosity. I had tried Deep Tissue massage and Acupuncture with mixed results. My experience at Zen Shiatsu Express & Shiatsu School has been a literal blessing. I have been working with Sheyna for roughly 10 months. Staff is professional and the space is calming. I look forward to a continued relationship with the folks at Zen Shiatsu Express in Brattleboro, VT. Thank you! Not sure what is going on but since I wrote this review I’ve had multiple cancellations on my once a month appointment. This month I was asked to come in early, then no my original appointment would be fine, then I received a text 15 mins before my scheduled appointment for a cancellation. Also, not a huge deal but don’t pay with cash as they don’t seem able to make change. I was over charged my last 3 appointments for this reason. Five star quality massage. Less than desirable reliability and payment options."
"Sheyna’s shiatsu massage was absolutely amazing. She was able to completely cure the sharp pain in my shoulder/neck that had been bothering me for months. I can’t remember the last time I felt so relaxed! She explained what she was working on and how I was holding tension in those particular areas. Can’t wait for my next session! 10/10"
"I've been going to Zen Shiatsu Xpress & Shiatsu School of Vermont for a few years now, and have received many shiatsu sessions from both Margie and Sheyna. I originally sought treatment for a knee injury. I had bad nerve damage, bone bruising, and a subluxed knee and hip. I tried physical therapy, topical pain medication, multiple kinds of braces, CBD, and more. Nothing worked, for over 2 years and I experienced sharp nerve pain in parts of my knee and total numbness in parts of my knee and leg. After 1 session of shiatsu I had sensation in my knee where there had previously been only numbness, and the sharp pain decreased. After another session the nerve pain was gone. Now, when I start to feel tingling creeping back into my knee, I know all I need to do is go for a shiatsu session and I will be good as new. Months and months go by between sessions before I start to notice I need to get worked on again, but when I go in for regular preventative sessions, my body is noticeably more coordinated and integrated. I also have a rare connective tissue disorder that makes my body kind of difficult to work with. I have been made to feel crazy and hopeless by many many medical practitioners. But at Shiatsu School of Vermont, I was treated with dignity and compassion. Though Margie and Sheyna were not experts on my condition before we began our work together, they approached it with a curious mindset and made me feel that I had allies dedicated to learning about my specific needs. After countless disappointing (and sometimes very traumatizing) experiences with expensive medical interventions that don't work, discovering shiatsu has completely changed my life. I save so much money by getting regular preventative shiatsu treatments."
