"I am now retired, my last position in ECE was of being employed by SMOC as an Infant/Toddler Preschool Teacher. Having worked in a variety of very nice centers and schools; some private and others public ~ I can say with all honesty that SMOC was the best. What made it best for me was that the high teacher to student ratio allowed me to do so much more for each individual child. Each classroom had three team teachers and often one assistant. This situation allowed me to get to know each child. And so, through personal and meaningful interactions I was more equipped to make individualized educational plans tailored for that particular child. There was more time for curriculum development. I had more time to make weekly written observations on children; to organize portfolios of each child's work; to talk about specific details with parents about their child; to listen to parents own observations and concerns; and I was given more time to prepare detailed written reports as well as to request referrals with in-house specialists. Working at SMOC, we were licensed by the Massachusetts Dept of Early Childhood Ed., accredited by NAEYC (National Association of Education for Young Children), and also regulated by Head Start. This led to excellence in educational opportunities for the community we served. I was very happy to being in a school with the highest standards and where, as teachers, we were also given an opportunity to excell."
