Broad Arrow Tavern

"I've never taken a bite of something and sent it back. I wish I'd done exactly that. I ordered the grilled salmon with Brussels sprouts, butternut squash puree, crispy sage, and gnocchi in brown butter. There were no Brussels sprouts, but there were overcooked "roasted" vegetables on my plate with unpleasantly chewy, yet charred in some places "gnocchi" - dry, sponge-like, tasteless , nonna is crying - "gnocchi". This was not gnocchi in brown butter. It was "who hurt you and why did you take it out on a potato?". At a loss of $32 here for that dish, I'm disgusted. The fact a chef thought that this was acceptable to send out? The staff didn't say anything bringing it out? Everything was overcooked. This was the recommendation over another dish on the menu. The manager came over and gave us a story about how this was a new menu they had been testing. Even if true, one look at the plate and you'd know it wasn't right. I ate a few bites of things. Mostly the salmon. Thinking back, if I'd made this myself I'd have dumped it and ordered takeout or try again. I wouldn't give this to someone I disliked. My companion's food was fine. Not worth going back for. I wouldn't dine here again"

"I stopped here for some food on an early Wednesday afternoon. The entrance to this restaurant is through the hotel it is attached to. Wasn’t too busy at the time. The inside has a bar and a table area. I opted to be seated outside as it was a nice day. The outside patio has a few tables with a nice small garden surrounding you from the street. There is a large overhanging tent which protects you from too much sunlight. Because of the angles of the building, the garden, plus the tent this is actually a low breeze area. It can get very warm here. I was attended to quickly and the waitress was friendly and amicable. I had one beer, the Freeport seasonal. I believe it was a bitter pale ale and I found it to be quite tasteful. For my entree I had the Tavern bacon cheeseburger with fries. The food was great and I would definitely revisit."

"What a delight! We ended up here almost by accident, and I can’t wait until we are dining in Freeport again! The food is excellent, our server was personable and funny, and the outdoor patio is lovely. We ordered the gazpacho, Buffalo cauliflower, pork loin, and lobster roll. And whatever you do, don’t leave without trying the made to order chocolate chip cookie and homemade ice cream!"

"Wonderful service. My cocktail of choice was not on the menu. When I asked, the server was not familiar with it. But the bartender looked it up and made one for me. It was delicious. Apricot Stone Sour."

"We decided to make our first visit to Broad Arrow to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary and had the best lunch ever. We had oven roasted muscles, grilled scallops, and duck breast. Be sure to dip your bread in the muscle broth, it is addictive. Everything was prepared to perfection and the side dish was as delicious as the main. Dessert was a blueberry and peach crisp that was to die for. I honestly can't say that I've had a better meal. The decor is rustic outdoors which is perfect for Maine. The tavern has a fireplace in the middle of the room and a wood-fired oven in the kitchen making the atmosphere delightful. Our server was friendly and attentive considering we came in at the tail end of a busy lunch crowd. I will definitely visit again the next time I'm headed to LL Bean down the street."
