"DO NOT VISIT. I’ve been nothing but disappointed ever since Pears replaced The Outpost. Even if you like soggy fries and cardboard pizza, you’ll never know when to order it, because their hours are so inconsistent. Ive gone to pears at 10 am and 11 am only to find the doors locked. They also close the kitchen way before 8pm. I do not recommend eating the ice cream here. When I got ice cream, there were only two flavors, chocolate and vanilla, which would have been fine, if not for the scoop (which was visibly dirty). It had obviously been left in the same murky water for the entire day, and flies were swarming the cup it sat in. The “fudge” was sitting in the bottom of warmer so long that is was chunky and burned. I almost threw up when I tasted it. The teens running the place have terrible customer service, they are very rude over the phone. Not to mention the owner’s seaplane that he flies at all hours of the day. Its so loud you can hear it across the lake, no matter how far you go. I will never be going there again."
"My family and I would spend hundreds ordering food from The Outpost every summer. Half the time when I call to order Pear's, they're out of pizza dough or are angry with you for having the audacity to make an order. I called to order pizza at 7:35 on a weekend and had the following conversation with the teenager answering the phone: "Hi, I'd like to order food." "What do you want? Because we turned the grills off." "Pizza." "We're not doing pizza right now." "What are you doing then?" "Cleaning up." "Sorry, never mind then." When I actually manage to get food, I'm immediately disappointed. The Outpost had good pizza, solid ingredients, and salad, so I know these things are available here. Pear's decides to sell borderline inedible food and cook it as poorly as possible. Mozzarella sticks are hollow, chewy, and cold. There's no salad at all, much less any vegetables. The pizza is worse than any fast food pizza chain. Fries are soggy and flavorless. Chicken tenders are as hard as rocks. Though the restaurant is called "Pear's Ice Cream," they only have one or two flavors, the sizes are wildly inconsistent, and they don't wash the scoops. Not to mention they don't sell gas anymore! They just own an awful, noisy seaplane. What a waste of an amazing location. I can't wait until they leave."
"Great spot. Friendly staff. Sandwiches were the worst we have ever had - chicken salad with cranberries and walnut was essentially a walnut and mayonnaise sandwich. They forgot the chicken. And all the veggies we asked for on the wrap were also missing. Very disappointing! This was after waiting 30 minutes for the sandwiches."
"So bummed....it was 93 degrees today so we wanted to get ice cream to cool down a bit. We used to get ice cream from Pears when they were open in Casco, and loved that they served Giffords's ice cream. They always had 25+ flavors, and were never disappointed. When we saw on FB that their cooler inside the store was full of Giffords's, we said,"Yes!! Let's go there and support a local company that uses great ice cream!!!". The list of ice cream flavors was your typical vanilla, chocolate, cookies and cream etc. Only about 10 flavors. My husband and I both got sundaes; mine was cookies and cream and his was strawberry. The girl asked what we wanted on the sundae, so I said, does it come with hot fudge? Yes, whipped cream, cherries, nuts, jimmies and banana. I said, that sounds great!!! Then......the disappointment started.....one girl opened a new container of Great Value cookies and cream ice cream!!!! WTH!!!! She scooped one hefty scoop into a dish, the drizzled on Great Value Chocolate SAUCE!!! Not even Fudge Sauce that was warmed in a microwave!!!! Swirled some canned whipped cream (most places use this so no big deal!!!!) on top, put a few shakes of sprinkles and 2 cherries. Hubs sundae was the same as mine but with a freshly opened container of strawberry Great Value ice cream. Did you know that Great Value products are sold at Walmart!?!?!?!? To pay 6.50 for a Walmart sundae was totally absurd!!!! I was floored when I saw what they were using, and said to hubs.....for 13.00 total we should have gone 10 minutes down the road to Walmart and each purchased our own ice cream, fudge sauce, whipped cream, sprinkles and cherries and could have had sundaes for days....not for 10 minutes. So dissatisfied, disappointed and will not go back again."
"Excellent lobsta roll and such a pleasure as we ordered on the water and we arrived, everything was ready!"
