"I would only recommend Makis to someone if they know what they need and are local as it can be very convenient than running to HD or Lowes, but you will pay for that convenience. I would not recommend Makis for anyone trying to run their own building project. I started my home project and decided to just go straight to them as they were local and I assumed would help take care of my needs. It all seemed fine to start and communication went smoothly. Once the project started getting product ordered and delivered my issues became apparent. I gave them my blueprints for a take off and expected them to follow the plans. We got our initial order sent and all the first-floor joists were the wrong size but they were still within code so we decided to just go with it because they would not make a new delivery even though they made the mistake. Once the first floor and second floor started going up, we noticed the huge shortage of 2x4s for the house, seems the “person in the office” that did my take off left out every 2x4 except the load bearing wall for my entire quote. (Must keep the quote low that way to seal the deal) My framer was also short all the lumber for the stairs, same issue as above. After roughly an extra $5000 of lumber we got things squared away. Then we were short zip wall, then short on roofing material, then short 7 cases of siding. Every week I was told “next week” and that went on for a while. My siding job took only 5 days of actual work but ended up stretching 45 days and an extra $6000 dollars of siding that were not figured into the quote. At this point communication was mostly possible only if I went in person as emails would go weeks without answer which was difficult as I still have to work a fulltime job and take care of 2 children so email was the easiest but never responded to in a timely manner. I spent over 2 months trying to get my cabinets ordered through Makis and most of those 2 months was just waiting for them to come out and confirm the final measurement. Many times, a day was promised and they never showed up. By the time I got my cabinets ordered the price jumped up $3000 at the start of new year and I still had to eat that cost even though it was their inaction that caused this price hike for me. I ordered my windows through Makis which are made in house, I had to have 3 replaced due to damage caused by whoever made them. I was told they were better than Harvey windows and after having them I strongly disagree. My last Harvey windows felt great to use where these seem cheap and have had a lot of defects so far. I ordered my shutters back in November did not get them until about May or June I have ordered almost everything for my house from Makis except for flooring and appliances and have spent at least or close to $100,000 with them and every time they made a mistake, I had to eat the cost. I went to them because they were local and I needed help with this project but now I see I would have easily had a similar but cheaper experience from Home Depot or Lowes. I must constantly check my bills with them as they like to leave things on there you been credited back which is shady. My contractors apologized for advising me to go here and after looking into it they told me if I ever do go back to use the Lunenburg store as that is where the owners or higher ups work. Edit: never received replacement doors for my broken cabinets after being "ordered" Reached out to the corporate contact on the website about my windows, as alot of them seem drafty from the glass and never got a call back from them, been about 1 -2 months."
"Watch out for makis truck drivers, I was behind this guy for 15 minutes and he kept going over the yellow line and almost hit several cars. When I called the number on the truck they didn’t seem to care, didn’t ask for a truck number or location."
"Zero customer service, no support for questions or asking suggestions for alternatives. Been there two times trying to help out local businesses and both times I ended up leaving and going to Home Depot instead."
"Well, I was building a rabbit cage. 5 ft x 10 ft. They were so cool. They took the time to cut the 2 x 4s in half so it saved me time. Also found everything I needed there."
"I bought a ridge beam from MakI. Kevin from engineering was awesome. The company was great to deal with and delivered quickly despite shortages!!!! I have no idea how they pulled it off. They were also cheaper than the big box stores!"
