Orenda Wildlife Sanctuary

Orenda Wildlife Sanctuary is a park and tourist attraction located at 1530 Main Street in Barnstable, Massachusetts, United States. Our mission is to preserve and protect open space for wildlife habitat, fresh air, and water quality in sanctuaries on Cape Cod and throughout Massachusetts. With over 60 sanctuaries covering 730 acres, we work to ensure the land is preserved for everyone, forever.

The word "Orenda" comes from the language of the Iroquois indigenous people, meaning "extraordinary, powerful, life energy within all beings and their environment". Founded in 1986 by Barbara Birdsey, a nationally-acclaimed philanthropist and wildlife protection advocate, Orenda shares its mission through public education, special events, and policy forums on wildlife issues.

Supported by private donors, foundations, and partnerships, Orenda aims to acquire more land, increase donations, and raise awareness about their mission. With a strong Board of Directors and committees, Orenda is committed to expanding its capacity to uphold its mission and work closely with organizations like The Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.

Orenda is also seeking a summer intern for Cape Cod students interested in environmental conservation.
