Yiddish Book Center
About the Business
The Yiddish Book Center, located at 1021 West Street in Amherst, Massachusetts, is a unique institution that serves as a book store, library, museum, and store all in one. Visitors can search the full text of their extensive collection of Yiddish books on their Full-Text Book Search Site.
By making a donation to the Yiddish Book Center, you can help safeguard their books and support Yiddish literature and culture for future generations. In March, the institution celebrates both Purim and Women's History Month, highlighting the important role of women in history and literature.
Each month, a staff member or friend of the Yiddish Book Center selects their favorite stories, books, interviews, or articles from their online collections. This month, Elizabeth Cardaropoli, the Associate Director of Visitor Services and Public Programs Manager, has handpicked some selections for visitors to enjoy.

"It's an amazing heartwarming, inspiring and heartbreaking experience to watch the introductory film and go on the guided tour. The staff is super friendly and the tour guide very knowledgeable. Don't miss this!"
"Excellent experience and education on the history of Yiddish. A definite must visit and make sure you get a tour too. It's well with it!"
"Closed for instal of new exhibit until October and made no mention of this on their homepage or contacted Google to update the Google Maps listing. Drove for a while only to see it was closed. Silly."
"I'm just glad I got to experience the Yiddish Book Center before I graduated from Hampshire back in 1998. It became my FAVORITE place on campus to study and write when I came back to Hampshire from Academic Leave (I wasn't on campus during the 1995-1996 Academic Year) & Field Study (Fall of 1996); in between my third & fourth years (Division II-Division III) due to the garden, and it's peaceful and tranquil meditative environment. It GREATLY enhanced Hampshire's campus overall, and is a culturally vital institution both for the Valley, and for Jewish scholars worldwide."
"Three jabs or your out! We came from Nevada eager to explore the bookstore and donate a collection of old Yiddish books and manuscripts. Yet were turned away because we couldnβt show proof of three Covid vaccines. Seems like it would be great place to visit and support, but shameful the place has been ruined by the rigid nonsensical policies of the little tyrants on staff."
