"We’ve entrusted MV Vacation Rentals for the last five years to secure a home for our week long family vacations. They are very helpful in choosing the right home and it’s a super easy pick up/drop off process once on the island. They are also readily available should you have a question. The homes they’ve helped us to rent are always in great condition and well stocked with essentials. Highly recommend!"
"Our rental property was very clean, well maintained and nicely furnished. The screened porch was a perfect addition, where we spent bug-free evenings enjoying the summer weather. The grill was very new, clean and had plenty of propane for our use. The property location was just a 10 minute walk to downtown Oak Bluffs, which saved us from searching for a parking space. We did have an issue with the smoke alarm going off at 2:30 in the morning. When we reported it, the caretaker (also an Oak Bluffs firefighter) was at the house by 5 pm the next day to check the system and assure us all was fine, which it was for the remainder of our stay. The only drawback to the property for anyone with children, is that there is only yard space in front of the house, but it is fairly spacious. All things considered, I would rent the property again."
"Distance to center of town was a nice 10 minute walk. Parking was provided. Washer and Dryer and Apple TV was provided. Now the many negatives: Infestation of ants reported but not corrected. Kitchen plumbing problem as the waste pipe is too short creating water on kitchen floor and inside cabinet reported but not corrected. No anti slip mat or a handle in shower, reported but not corrected. No dust pan for broom, reported and corrected. Two of the three bedrooms did not have air conditioning units as advertised, reported and corrected. No portable fans as advertised. Small towel rack in bathroom was broken and unusable was reported and corrected. The air filters in the AC in the living room and upstairs bedroom were caked with a large amount of debris. I cleaned them myself and it was reported to the head of housekeeping. The house had only two trash cans. One in the kitchen with no bags available and a smaller can in the bathroom with bags available for that. Not one bedroom had a small trash can available. Refrigerator's ice maker and drinking water do not work. If you are going to wash your beach towels the dryer will take roughly 1 and a half to 2 hours to dry. Dryer's lint filter was caked with an enormous amount of lint (fire hazard). Should have been cleaned before renter's arrival as should have the 2 AC units filters. Last but not least on our first night there at about 11PM when we were in bed I got up to use the bathroom and as soon as I turned the corner I tripped on the marble piece on the floor in front of the fireplace. This piece sits about 1/2 to 3/4 inch above floor. I had a violent fall injuring my left shoulder, right leg and I smacked by head against the stone fireplace resulting in my wife rushing me to the emergency room. See photos. Reported of course but this lack of safety feature was not corrected."
"Our family travelled to Oak Bluffs from the UK to share this beach-side home on Martha's Vineyard with our extended Floridian family who flew up to join us. Accepting that a beachside home for 12 was never going to be cheap on MV, we nevertheless thought our accommodation would be clean and reasonably well maintained. Upon arrival we found the property dirty with cheap furnishings and shabby furniture throughout, seemingly picked up from a yard sale. We had 11 in our party yet only eight could be seated around the dining table on the mis-matched chairs, one of which broke the first time it was sat on. The floor was dirty leaving everyone walking barefoot with black soles, one of the en-suite bathrooms was infested with mosquitoes, a light bulb was missing from a table lamp which had mould spores on the shade, venetian blinds were broken, a sink tap leaked and the kitchen waste bin interior hadn't been washed. Worst of all were several windows and exterior doors whose metal hinges had corroded so badly they couldn't be closed leaving fly screens as the only deterrent to the weather or intruders. Our US guests were totally embarrassed for us. To their credit MVVR expressed genuine concern when we spoke to them the following day and they contacted the owner who authorised cleaners to return and address our concerns. We instructed them to wash the floors throughout which clearly they were not used to doing, and we sprayed and cleared the mosquitoes to enable the bathroom to be used. The owner also offered a handyman to address the other problems but seemingly the owners is unaware of the state of dis-repair his property has fallen into which will take hundreds - if not thousands - of dollars to rectify if it is to come close to meeting the standard expected at a rent of this level. Hopefully MVVR will ensure the owner is made aware of his responsibilities and this critique will act as a warning to others."
"Working with MV Rentals was pretty easy. Send info, they contact owner, send lease, you send check, pick up and drop off keys, however I find 45 days for return of my security deposit a bit unreasonable. My review is of the property itself, NETNA. The property was down a very long, bumpy and terrible dirt road, behind Mink Meadows golf course. I understand this can be typical of the Vineyard but I wish the agent had made me aware of this. It may have influenced the vehicle I chose to bring. The road had many gouges and constantly scraped the bottom of my rental. When we finally did arrive we were greeted with a broken beach chair on the front lawn and a very unattractive propane tank. Beware, the property is surrounded by woods, not nicely landscaped and you will track dirt and sand in the house and your car constantly. The photo shows a large flowering bush but this was obviously taken in the spring because there were no flowers on the property at all. Upon entering the house I dismayed to find the property very stuffy, damp and smelling of mildew. I had to constantly spray air freshener and light scented candles to try and overcome the smell. Everything was old and a bit run down and there were cobwebs throughout. I even considered removing the couch slip covers and chair pads to wash them. The house r needs a good deep cleaning and touchup in many areas. The bathrooms were very small and I could barely turn around in the shower. I also did not enjoy looking at the PVC pipes in the showers. The stairs to the 2nd floor were a bit creaky and unsteady. The master bedroom was on the 2nd floor and an ok size but the bed had no box spring, only a mattress on a platform, reminiscent of my college days. We choose to sleep in the downstairs bedroom which consisted of 2 twins pushed together and the bed was very hard, almost as though there was not mattress, felt like we were sleeping on the box spring. One of the main problems was the constant barrage of mosquitos. We had to run from the car to the house to avoid getting eaten alive. Although the home has a large deck it is virtually unusable because you sitting outside is impossible. The lawn furniture was dirty and my husband had to hose it down although we never used it. We sprayed the entire outside every day and kept citronella candles lit on the deck constantly with bug spray just to try and keep the mosquitos from getting in the house when we opened the door. There is a small private beach that is about a 5 minute walk away but again the mosquitos are relentless on the walk. I'm not sure this beach is good for swimming because there are lots of rocks to walk through, but is adequate for sunbathing. The house may have been a very nice beach house in it's day but it needs lots of updating and a good thorough cleaning, especially given the cost. If you want rustic seclusion this may be for you. The one thing I will say is the house is well stocked with everything you could need on your vacation."
