"Renting on Block Island is an experience that "you cannot control". The houses are mostly older and because they are rare- do not have to be in great shape to be a rental. I have rented from Lila Delman for 3 years and the team has always been great. The agency "doesn't control" the rental product because they aren't the owner, etc. If you want to rent a house for the summer- you need to start looking in Sept/Oct of the previous calendar year. (Everything books up way in advance- and the house rentals are always offered to the renters from the previous year- first) The rentals A. Don't have to have amazing furniture/ decor B. The kitchens are not "fully stocked" with all the accessories. C. It is an island so there is a bit of "island time" mentality. The locals and experienced renters/vacationers "are in the know" and the first time visitors/renters- just need to "learn the ropes". My advice is to enjoy the beautiful nature and beaches and lower the expectations of "service". We have always just been grateful to have a house in a great location that was clean. If you want "sharp knives" you will need to bring you own."
"Hoping the bad reviews are not what we will experience. We have been renting homes on BI for many years and this is our first year using Lila. The online booking system was very easy. I loved that we were able to use a credit card so that we can get and use travel points. I called the office for a quick question and the person on the phone was very helpful and nice. See you in 2022. ** Addition- just got back from BI and Lila Delman was awesome. The house was perfect and the communication with Rosemary was quick and responsive. Not one thing to complain about."
"I hesitated putting a 1 star because I’ve used them for a few years and mostly our interactions have been mediocre. I pride myself on giving good reviews when warranted and only write bad ones If something is truly egregious. This year was by far the strangest and most stressful interaction I’ve had with them. Rude, spiteful and honestly the most unprofessional business I’ve ever encountered on the island. I will not be using them again in the future which is such a shame. Hopefully the owners realize that this is not in any way related to the condition of their home or our rental experience with them but truly based on the attitudes of the employees at Lila Delman."
"Extremely disappointed and dissatisfied with our experience with the Block Island team of Lila Delman. They were extremely unresponsive leading up to our week's rental. No one returned any of our emails or phone calls with our questions regarding the rental property. Received our security deposit back minus $400 without any explanation. Called to inquire and was given a list of damages that were simply not true. We will return to Block Island but will never use Lila Delman again."
"The entire group lacks integrity and accountability. The home rental did not have smoke detectors. Nearly all of the windows were in disrepair and would not open and the door would not close. The inside of the cottage was filthy with food stuck to all of the dishes in the kitchen, mold, dust and cobwebs. When we called to have them install fire detectors in the holes in the ceiling, we were ignored for 3 days. The house ran out of propane for cooking and it took someone 8 hours to come and fill the tank. The staff was not at all responsive to our concerns. We will never utilize this rental company again."
