"Visited Vernick Fish on a Wednesday night for a special occasion. Overall, it was a good time, but for the price tag and hype I'd heard, I expected a great time. The interior decoration was nice, but very casual for the type of restaurant and price tag. Similarly I'd consider the menu mostly boring and needing to be invigorated. The service throughout was excellent - everyone we interacted with was awesome. However when it comes to the food, I was only mildly impressed. By far the best item was the fried octopus. Everything else was fairly bland, and not worth the price tag in my opinion. For 2 people and a $350 tab, I expected a more interesting, impactful, and upscale experience."
"Vernick Fish is low key one of the best dining spots for vegetarians. We shouldn’t label them simply as a seafood restaurant. The vegetable dishes look simple on the surface, but it’s the kind of cooking that gets tiny details right, made to look effortless because of considerable skill. They were so delicious and layered that I just vacuumed them right up. If your group is a medley of omnivores and vegetarians, Vernick Fish should be a top choice as nobody has to compromise. Vernick Fish is first and foremost an oyster bar. The oysters were delicious, plump and clean-tasting, with nuanced hot sauce as condiments. I usually prefer my oysters cooked instead of raw, but the Raspberry Point oysters were just so sweet I kept ordering more. The dining space is an elegant white tablecloth kind of setting with plenty of natural light. Fancy yet comfortable and casual, not stuffy. Service was very kind, attentive, and helpful. The waitstaff helped me pick oysters by figuring out my preferences. Condiments and utensils were often replaced even when they didn’t have to."
"The overall experience was very good. I would return here. Lots of really good bites but the octopus app was my fav. Our server was kind, a tad over the top, but efficient. Bus staff was great and a manager stopped by the table to see how we were doing. Had to skip dessert."
"Beautiful restaurant with great food and great service. We were able to walk in and sit at the bar for dinner on a friday night with no wait. The purified long island ice tea was very good. The food came out with excellent timing. We never felt rushed, nor did it take long for the next dish to come out."
"We had a wonderful lunch here today, the food was really delicious, and the service world class. We went with our waiter’s suggestions and were not disappointed. Probably the best restaurant experience I had in Philly since moving in about a month ago. I especially liked the pasta with crab ( spaghetti, blue crab, zucchini, brown butter breadcrumb), second best pasta dish I was ever served (the best being in Croatia 13 years ago). We also had the grilled black sea bass, which was excellent. Bill for two (with two glasses of wine and tip) was 160$. Worth every penny."
